Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang said: On September 15, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien sent a letter to the US Secretary of Commerce requesting the US Department of Commerce and the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to reconsider the decision to refuse to recognize the equivalent of 12 Vietnamese seafood exploitation occupations under the US Marine Mammal Protection Act in order to avoid serious disruptions to bilateral trade and protect the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese fishermen and workers.
According to the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , in recent times, under the direction of the Government and the support of localities, the Vietnamese seafood industry has made efforts to modernize, improve responsibility and strengthen fisheries management.
In the coming time, on the basis of the comprehensive strategic partnership and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and the United States, Vietnam is willing to exchange and work with the United States, remove existing obstacles, continue to promote fair and sustainable bilateral trade cooperation, and ensure the legitimate interests of people and businesses on both sides.
Also at the press conference, Ms. Pham Thu Hang also discussed negotiations on US tariffs.
"As we have repeatedly affirmed, Vietnam has been and will continue to closely cooperate with the US on reciprocal taxes and related issues on the basis of compliance with international law, law compliance, ensuring the legitimate interests of each country and promoting fair and sustainable trade, bringing practical benefits to the people," the Foreign Ministry Spokesperson affirmed.
