In the new part, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom still applies the same formula that made the first part successful: telling a story full of adventure and romance on the "superhero movie" background. Aquaman is not just a story about a powerful hero fighting for justice; the film takes viewers with Aquaman to explore new lands, carry out new missions and on that wonderful journey, the king of the ocean becomes more mature and trustworthy. All the elements of humor, romance, and family are harmoniously combined to create a movie that "all audiences are craving" in the context that the superhero movie genre has gradually lost its unique position for more than a decade.
In this return to Atlantis, director James Wan continues to expand this thriving underwater kingdom by describing in more detail the life of the creatures here. But not only that, James Wan also takes the audience with Aquaman and Orm on a global adventure, where they come to many worlds with a variety of different exotic flowers and plants. Actor Jason Momoa said he always wondered how James Wan could do all of this, create such huge worlds and the Aquaman series is something he has never participated in in his previous career.
While many superhero movies in recent times have encountered fierce controversies about special effects, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom are like a "handbook" from James Wan instructing on how to "use the budget properly", when bringing overwhelming, detailed frames that immerse the audience in the world of the movie. Patrick Wilson - the actor who plays Orm and is also the person who has been with James Wan through many famous movies such as Insidious or The Conjuring shared that the best thing about the movie is the colors, the beauty and the overwhelmingness of the movie.
James Wan's addition of the mysterious creatures gives Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom more eye-catching fighting scenes of the two main characters. They constantly have to "fight" with these aggressive monsters. Along with the physique of Jason Momoa and Patrick Wilson, the fighting scenes, using body force are portrayed a lot in the film, bringing breathtaking and satisfying action scenes to the audience.
According to the media, after the first part of "Aquaman" was a huge success with a global revenue of 1.1 billion USD, "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" is expected to inherit this impressive achievement. However, it is expected that "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" may only reach 37 to 43 million USD when it opens at the domestic box office in the US during the 4-day Christmas weekend.
