The 98th Academy Awards ceremony, currently taking place in Hollywood, continues to deliver many emotional moments as a series of outstanding films win in important categories.
“Frankenstein” is currently the most awarded film, while “Avatar 3,” “Sinners,” and “One Battle After Another” have also made their mark in major categories.
Making a strong impression with its unique visual world , director Guillermo del Toro's "Frankenstein" became one of the most successful films at the 2026 Oscars, winning three awards in the categories of "Best Costume Design," "Best Makeup and Hairstyling," and "Best Production Design."
The cinematic world in "Frankenstein" is characterized by a distinctive color palette of red, black, and gray. Lighting is arranged like brushstrokes, highlighting the characters' faces against the dark backdrop, suggesting they are trapped between reason and instinct.
Speaking upon receiving the award, designer Kate Hawley said that winning in these technical categories was a recognition of the efforts of the entire creative team. She thanked director Guillermo del Toro for helping to realize the artistic vision for the film.
Meanwhile, director James Cameron's science fiction blockbuster "Avatar 3" won the award for "Outstanding Visual Effects," affirming the series' position in the field of film technology.
The project brought together over 2,200 visual effects artists, creating a large-scale fantasy world with complex shots and sophisticated visual effects. The award is seen as recognition of the production team's continued efforts to push the boundaries of cinematic technology.
In the "Best Original Screenplay" category, the award went to the horror film "Sinners " directed by Ryan Coogler.
The film was critically acclaimed for its blend of supernatural elements with social issues such as racism and historical memory. The story revolves around twin brothers who return to their hometown to open a tavern, but gradually confront an ancient demonic force – a metaphor for past hauntings and conflicts.
Paul Thomas Anderson's drama film "One Battle After Another" also won two major awards.
First up was "Best Adapted Screenplay," marking director Anderson's first Oscar win. In his acceptance speech, he stated that the film was an apology to the younger generation, reflecting the responsibility of the older generation towards the future.
Additionally, the film won the "Achievement in Casting" award – a category given for the first time at the Oscars. Casting director Cassandra Kulukundis attributed the film's success to the contributions of many of the auditioning actors and other creative departments throughout the production process.
The film "One Battle After Another" tells the story of Bob Ferguson, a political activist played by Leonardo DiCaprio, as he searches for his kidnapped daughter, confronts his past mistakes, and reflects the turbulent landscape of America.
