VietnamPlus•03/06/2026On June 2nd, the International Football Federation (FIFA) confirmed the list of 1,248 players who will participate in the 2026 World Cup, marking many historical milestones for world football.
A notable highlight is that two superstars, Lionel Messi of Argentina and Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal, will both participate in their sixth World Cup, becoming rare players to reach this historic milestone. Veteran goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa of Mexico will also be featured in his sixth World Cup.
Alongside familiar faces, the 2026 World Cup will see the first-time participation of the national teams of Cape Verde, Curacao, Jordan, and Uzbekistan.
The tournament will open on June 11th and run until July 19th in three co-hosting nations: Canada, Mexico, and the United States. A total of 104 matches will be held, the most in World Cup history.
According to FIFA, 357 players have participated in at least one previous World Cup, while 891 players will be experiencing the most prestigious tournament in world football for the first time. In terms of age, Scotland's goalkeeper Craig Gordon is the oldest player at 43 years and 162 days old, while Mexico's midfielder Gilberto Mora is the youngest at just 17 years and 240 days old.
The squad list also shows generational diversity, with 22 players under 20 years old and 7 players aged 40 and over participating in the 2026 World Cup, reflecting the blend of experience and youth at a tournament expected to set many new milestones in world football.
