Lao Foreign Minister: President Luong Cuong's visit creates new momentum for Vietnam-Laos special relations

On the occasion of the State visit of President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Luong Cuong to Laos from April 24-25 at the invitation of General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic Thongloun Sisoulith, Lao Foreign Minister Thongsavanh Phomvihane emphasized the extremely important significance of the visit.

According to Foreign Minister Thongsavanh Phomvihane, this is Comrade Luong Cuong's first State visit to Laos in his new position, taking place in 2025 - a year with many meaningful and important historical events for both Vietnam and Laos, the final year of implementing the Resolution of the Party Congress of each country, the 11th Congress of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and the 13th Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

In particular, in 2025, Vietnam and Laos will also organize rallies to celebrate many major and important historical events of each country such as the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam; the 50th anniversary of Laos' National Day and the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day; the 105th anniversary of the birth of President Kaysone Phomvihane and the 135th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birth and the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification.

Emphasizing that President Luong Cuong's visit to Laos this time took place in the atmosphere of the first days of the Lao New Year Bunpimay 2568 (Buddhist calendar), the head of the Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs believes that the visit will create new momentum, contributing significantly to bringing the great friendship between Vietnam and Laos to an increasingly deeper, more substantial and effective level, bringing prosperity to the people of each country in the coming time.

Minister Thongsavanh Phomvihane said that during the visit, the two sides will discuss important issues to continue implementing the foreign policy agreement of the two Parties and States to continue nurturing and further tightening the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, States and peoples of Vietnam and Laos.

In the context of the world and regional situation continuing to have complex and unpredictable developments, affecting and influencing many countries including Vietnam and Laos, Minister Thongsavanh Phomvihane said that the two countries need to continue to be steadfast, consistent and further tighten the special relationship between the two countries, because this is a relationship founded by the great President Ho Chi Minh, President Kaysone Phomvihane and beloved President Souphanouvong and cultivated by generations of leaders of the two countries, a relationship built with the sweat and blood of revolutionary soldiers and people of the two countries.

According to the Lao Foreign Minister, Vietnam and Laos need to continue to maintain the exchange of delegations of high-ranking leaders and all levels, from the central to local levels, to continue to foster and maintain political trust; continue to strengthen cooperation and coordination, promote the effective implementation of agreements between the two Parties' high-ranking leaders and the results of the 47th Session of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee, as well as the results of visits by high-ranking leaders of the two countries, and cooperation agreements between ministries, branches and localities of the two countries.

The Lao Foreign Minister also emphasized that the two countries always support and assist each other in bilateral, sub-regional and multilateral forums, contributing to the common development of humanity, for peace and friendly cooperation among countries in the world.

"The close cooperation in various fields between Vietnam and Laos has been making important contributions to the development of the special relationship between the two countries, all for the purpose of bringing practical benefits to the people of the two countries," Minister Thongsavanh Phomvihane affirmed.

Highlighting the extremely valuable, timely and effective assistance of the Party, State and people of Vietnam for the Party, State and people of Laos during the previous resistance war for national salvation, as well as in the current cause of protecting, building and developing Laos, Foreign Minister Thongsavanh Phomvihane expressed his belief that, despite changes in the world situation, with the determination of the two Parties, two States and peoples, the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos, Laos and Vietnam, built with the sweat and blood of many generations of revolutionary soldiers and people of the two countries, will continue to be preserved, nurtured and developed forever.
