Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong confirmed that the Vietnamese gymnastics team practices extra on Sundays and holidays and collects money from athletes.

Today, January 18, Mr. Hoang Dao Cuong - Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, gave some information to the press about the case of athlete Pham Nhu Phuong accusing the national gymnastics team coach of overstating training wages. According to Pham Nhu Phuong, the coaches and athletes of the national gymnastics team received false training wages during the training period. Although they did not practice on Sundays, the gymnastics team members still shared the "extra-time training" wages, even though the team did not practice.

Overtime pay is 540,000 VND/day, athletes receive half, the rest is divided into funds and some expenses. According to the initial explanation, this money is used for internal and external affairs, buying more medical supplies and training supplies.

Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong assessed: " This is a complicated matter involving many departments, so there must be a verification and re-examination process. However, there is some information that can be provided. One is that the national gymnastics team organizes extra practice on Sundays and holidays when performing important international tasks.

Second, the gymnastics team - both coaches and athletes - has an organization that collects money for general activities and the collector is the head coach.

Therefore, there are some tasks that need to be done immediately. The Hanoi National Sports Training Center needs to re-check the team's attendance process and extra training days, the coaching staff needs to report the lesson plans and curriculum for these extra training days, the number of athletes participating in training and rest, the coaching staff needs to report and explain the revenues as reported in the press .

Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong emphasized that these are things that must be done clearly. Based on specific data, this must be done immediately but still needs time to verify. After completion, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will send information to the press, in the spirit of the most transparent and clear information, including strict handling and penalties. The penalty level is based on regulations. At 9:00 a.m. this morning, the Department of Sports and Physical Training held a meeting to listen to explanations from relevant departments and units. Attending this meeting were leaders of the National Sports Training Center I, High Performance Sports Department I, the Department of Financial Planning, Accounting and Training Management Department of the Hanoi National Sports Training Center and the coaching staff of the participating gymnastics team. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Physical Training requested the Department of Sports and Physical Training to invite Pham Nhu Phuong to work, to see his wishes and professional situation.
