Sources from the Russian Defense Ministry informed that the Russian Army used for the first time the 3-ton FAB-3000 high-explosive glide bomb with a universal control and adjustment module (UMPC) in the Special Military Operation.

The attack was carried out by the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) in the village of Liptsy, Kharkiv region. The target was the temporary deployment point of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in this area.

The FAB-3000 bomb dropped from the aircraft accurately attacked and almost completely destroyed the target.

Video of the explosion was posted on Telegram by war correspondent Alexander Kots. The video shows an aerial bomb hitting the rear of the building, causing severe damage. The house was almost completely destroyed by the shock wave and heat from the explosion.

The FAB remains today the most effective weapon of the Russian Armed Forces for attacking and destroying fortified Ukrainian positions,” military correspondent Alexander Kots added.

Experts evaluate the features of FAB-3000

The FAB-3000-M54 high-explosive bomb weighs more than 3 tons and contains 1.2 tons of explosives. The free-fall version of the FAB-3000 is equipped on the Tu-22M3 long-range bomber.

The bomb was designed taking into account all its aerodynamic characteristics, since it will be used as a glide bomb, dropped from Tu-22M3 bombers. Their use requires heavy bombers to lift them to high altitudes ,” said Russian military expert Alexey Leonkov.

The super bomb that poses a serious threat to the AFU has also been mentioned by many military forums in China. “ After Russia equipped the FAB-3000 aerial bomb with guidance equipment, its destructive power has become even more astonishing, ” said military observer Shao Yongling, adding that the glide bomb is fully worthy of the nickname “super bomb.”

Mr. Shao Yongling also noted that the air defense systems of the Armed Forces of Ukraine cannot effectively intercept glide bombs. Glide bombs usually have a very small radar cross-section, and they approach their targets at high speeds and low flight trajectories, making them difficult for surveillance and air defense systems to detect, or if they do detect them, it is too late.

US maintains stance on Ukraine's use of aid weapons to attack Russian territory

Politico newspaper, citing sources from Washington, reported that the US has not changed its policy, allowing AFU to use US weapons against Russian troops in all areas bordering Ukraine.

US administration officials commented on the statement of US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, who issued a statement authorizing the use of US weapons on Russian territory that applies to all territories where Russian troops cross the border into Ukraine. Sources stressed that the statement did not contain any policy change since the decision to allow the AFU to use offensive weapons in the Kharkiv region was made.

Initially, the move was described only in the context of the ongoing Russian offensive in Kharkiv, but this does not rule out the possibility of strikes in response to cross-border attacks in other regions,” Politico reported.

On May 31, US President Joe Biden authorized the AFU to attack targets in Russia with US weapons in the area near the border with the Kharkiv region. At the same time, the White House boss made it clear that Washington will not allow attacks with US weapons against Moscow and the Kremlin.

Russia may change its nuclear weapons doctrine

Russia's RIA Novosti news agency reported that Moscow is thinking about possible changes to Russia's current nuclear doctrine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said: “ We are currently thinking about what changes may be made to our nuclear doctrine. In any case, we know that potential adversaries are working on this, based on new factors related to lowering the threshold for using nuclear weapons.”

In particular, President Vladimir Putin also noted that the West is developing nuclear devices with extremely low explosive yield to avoid constraints on the use of nuclear weapons.

During the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) on June 7, the Russian President also admitted that Russia's nuclear doctrine could be changed in the future. Later, the head of state reiterated that, according to this doctrine, the use of nuclear weapons is possible only "in exceptional cases, in case of a threat to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Russia."

Earlier, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that the behavior of Western countries in the context of Russia's Special Military Operation showed the need to clarify or change a number of articles and provisions of Russia's nuclear doctrine.

Analysis of the model of collective Western behavior in relation to the Northeastern Military District shows that it is necessary to clarify certain parameters applicable to scenarios of the use of nuclear weapons described in military doctrine,” Sergei Ryabkov stressed.
