Welcoming Mr. Johannes Joseph Maria Bos and the delegation of experts to visit and work at the headquarters of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong said that over the past nearly 50 years, the cooperation between Vietnam and UNESCO has brought about important achievements and effectively contributed to the sustainable development of the country.
Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong received Johannes Joseph Maria Bos, Chairman of the International Advisory Council of UNESCO's Memory of the World Programme.
Vietnam has always been an active and responsible member, constantly playing a role in building UNESCO and contributing to international strategic issues.
High-level exchanges between the two sides, and the visit of the UNESCO Director-General to Vietnam, have shown that both sides are striving to promote cooperation; demonstrating the special interest of the Vietnamese Party and State leaders in the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage values, including documentary heritage.
Overview of the reception
Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong informed that, within the framework of the World Memory Program... Of UNESCO's esteemed members, Vietnam currently has 11 documentary heritage sites inscribed by the Programme's Committee.
These include 4 World Documentary Heritage sites and 7 Asia- Pacific Regional Documentary Heritage sites. Notably, the UNESCO Executive Board recently unanimously agreed to inscribe the collection of Vietnamese composer Hoang Van into the Memory of the World Register.
The ceremony to receive the World Documentary Heritage Certificate for the collection of musician Hoang Van will take place on the evening of July 24th at the Ho Guom Theater ( Hanoi ).
The Deputy Minister affirmed that UNESCO's recognition of these documentary heritages is not only an acknowledgment of the exceptional value of these documents but also contributes to the preservation and promotion of Vietnam's cultural and historical values.
Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong further stated that at the 8th session of the 15th National Assembly, the Vietnamese National Assembly officially passed the amended Law on Cultural Heritage. The amended Law on Cultural Heritage includes a separate chapter with many provisions clearly defining documentary heritage, while also emphasizing regulations aimed at preserving and promoting the values of documentary heritage.

Besides the achievements already made, the Deputy Minister hopes that experts from UNESCO's Memory of the World Programme will continue to support and strengthen assistance to Vietnam in the process of building documentary heritage dossiers. This will be a driving force to help Vietnam continue to build documentary heritage dossiers.
"With officially recognized documentary heritage, Vietnam always has special measures in place to protect it," Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong affirmed.
The Deputy Minister also requested that experts from the Program come to support Vietnam in the conservation and promotion of the value of documentary heritage; and dedicate more time to researching Vietnam's documentary heritage.
Vietnam is also ready to share its experience in improving the legal framework related to the management, protection, and promotion of documentary heritage.
Expressing sincere gratitude for the warm and cordial welcome extended by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to the delegation, Johannes Joseph Maria Bos, Chairman of the International Advisory Council of UNESCO's Memory of the World Programme, highly appreciated Vietnam's efforts in preserving and promoting the value of documentary heritage; as well as its cooperation in building the dossier for documentary heritage to be submitted for inscription.

Mr. Johannes Joseph Maria Bos assessed Vietnam as one of the countries that consistently prioritizes the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage in general and documentary heritage in particular. Vietnam's history curriculum has helped students develop an appreciation for cultural heritage values.
Mr. Johannes Joseph Maria Bos also emphasized that the collection of composer Hoang Van, which has been inscribed on the Memory of the World Register, is a rich and diverse collection; it possesses many values and contributes to the preservation of Vietnamese and world musical heritage.
During the process of compiling the dossier for the Hoang Van Musician Collection , Vietnam actively exchanged information with UNESCO's team of experts, demonstrating Vietnam's strong commitment and efforts in honoring and preserving the values of documentary heritage.
Along with the fact that Vietnam's amended Law on Cultural Heritage dedicates an entire chapter to the protection and promotion of documentary heritage, Mr. Johannes Joseph Maria Bos stated that this is a major step forward for Vietnam in perfecting the legal framework in the field of cultural heritage.
Regarding the proposals of Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong, Mr. Johannes Joseph Maria Bos expressed his agreement and stated that the team of experts from UNESCO's Memory of the World Programme is ready to support Vietnam in preserving and promoting the value of documentary heritage; and will also exchange information to assist Vietnam in building subsequent documentary heritage dossiers.
