Entering the semi-finals, the Vietnamese table tennis team's coaching staff maintained the same match order that had proven effective in the group stage. Nguyen Anh Tu was entrusted with the responsibility of opening the match, just like in the previous encounter with the Indonesian team.
In the first set, Anh Tú faced considerable difficulties, allowing Wong Qi Shen to take the lead and win 11-8. However, the Vietnamese player quickly adjusted his game, effectively exploiting his opponent's weaknesses in short rallies and making good use of his powerful backhand shots to turn the tide. Anh Tú won the next three sets, closing the match with a 3-1 victory and giving the Vietnamese team a crucial advantage.
In the second match, Dinh Anh Hoang continued to show his consistency, winning the first two sets quickly with scores of 11-9 and 11-6. Although his opponent narrowed the score to 1-2 after the third set, Anh Hoang maintained the necessary focus. Taking advantage of crucial points in the final set, the Vietnamese player won, bringing the overall score to 2-0 for the Vietnamese men's table tennis team.
The third match saw many dramatic developments when Duc Tuan was chosen to play. He got off to a poor start, losing two consecutive sets with close scores of 10-12 and 9-11. However, the turning point came in the third set when his opponent, Danny Wong, made numerous service errors, allowing Duc Tuan to secure a dominant 11-1 victory.
The two players engaged in an exciting back-and-forth battle in the fourth set before Duc Tuan capitalized on his serving advantage to force a deciding set. In the fifth set, his opponent continued to lose focus and made numerous mistakes, allowing Duc Tuan to secure a decisive 11-0 victory, sealing a 3-0 win for the Vietnamese team.
With this result, the Vietnamese men's table tennis team officially secured their place in the SEA Games 33 final after an 8-year wait. In the final match taking place later that evening, the Vietnamese team will face the winner of the other semi-final match between Singapore and the Philippines.
