Wushu ended Vietnam 's "gold medal drought" today by winning two gold medals in the Sanda (combat) events.

Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy won the first gold medal for Vietnam in Wushu at the 33rd SEA Games after defeating her opponent from Myanmar in the women's 60kg Sanda final.
Shortly afterwards, Truong Van Chuong won the gold medal in the men's 80kg Sanda category, after defeating the Laotian fighter in the final.
In athletics, 2019 Asian champion Quách Thị Lan brilliantly won the women's 400m hurdles, securing the sixth gold medal for Vietnamese athletics since the start of the Games.

Quách Thị Lan's time was 56.82 seconds, slightly slower than her own record of 56.10 seconds at the Asian Championships six years ago.
In the men's 3,000m steeplechase final, Nguyen Trung Cuong finished the race alone, leaving his competitors far behind. Trung Cuong won his second consecutive gold medal at the SEA Games.
Subsequently, Nguyen Thi Oanh won the gold medal in the women's 10,000m event. The runner, born in 1995, finished alone, leaving her competitors far behind. Le Thi Tuyet of Vietnam also came in second, winning the silver medal.

Nguyen Thi Oanh's time was 34 minutes 27 seconds 93, far surpassing her previous best at the 32nd SEA Games.
This is Nguyen Thi Oanh's 14th gold medal, making her the athlete with the most gold medals in athletics at regional competitions.
With the addition of 3 gold medals in athletics and 2 gold medals in Wushu, the Vietnamese sports delegation now has 39 gold medals (as of 9:00 PM on December 15th) at the SEA Games 33, temporarily ranking third after Thailand (142 gold medals) and Indonesia (52 gold medals).
