In 2026, military academies and officer schools will recruit 5,420 students for training platoon-level officers with university degrees; of which only 4 academies will recruit female candidates, including: the Military Technical Academy, the Military Medical Academy, the Military Science Academy, and the Logistics Academy.

For the 2026 recruitment process, the Ministry of National Defence is adding a new method for the first time: evaluating scores from a competency assessment test organized by the Ministry of National Defence's Military Recruitment Board. The competency assessment test is scheduled to be held once in the third week of June 2026 at the Military Technical Academy (Hanoi), the Information Officer School (Khanh Hoa), and the Army Officer School 2 (Dong Nai). This method helps to improve the ability to classify candidates, allowing training institutions to proactively select students, ensuring the selection of candidates with the right mindset and abilities for the training environment, and increasing their chances of admission.

Thus, in 2026, military schools will implement four admission methods: direct admission, priority admission according to the university admission regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training and the regulations of the Ministry of National Defense; admission based on the results of the competency assessment exam organized by Hanoi National University and Ho Chi Minh City National University; admission based on the results of the high school graduation exam; and admission based on the scores of the competency assessment exam organized by the Military Admissions Board of the Ministry of National Defense.

According to regulations from the Ministry of National Defence, all male and female candidates must participate in the preliminary selection process for admission to military schools, with the deadline being April 15, 2026. Candidates can use one of four methods for selection or all four methods; the system will use the highest score for selection, ensuring the rights of the candidates.

Candidates outside the military participate in the preliminary selection process at the Military Recruitment Boards of the communes, wards, and special zones where they reside; active military personnel participate in the preliminary selection process at the Military Recruitment Board at the regiment level and equivalent. Each candidate may only register for preliminary selection and admission to one military school as their first choice; schools only consider candidates who register for their first choice. Subsequent choices may be registered for civilian programs or other majors and schools outside the military sector.

Presiding over the meeting, Major General, Dr. Phung Thi Phu, Deputy Director of the Department of Military Training and Schools (General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army), emphasized that in recent years, military recruitment has always received unified and comprehensive guidance from the Ministry of National Defense; close coordination and assistance from ministries, departments, and localities; and the support of press agencies in promptly and responsibly disseminating information about military recruitment.

Through this work, students, their families, and the public gain a certain understanding of military schools, especially the regulations of the Ministry of National Defense regarding recruitment and training at military academies and schools. As a result, the quality of recruitment in 2025 and previous years has improved. In particular, the entrance exam scores for training at military academies and schools are now on par with top universities nationwide.

According to Major General Phung Thi Phu, in the coming period, the task of building the Army, consolidating national defense, and protecting the Fatherland will have new requirements. The Party and the State will continue to pay attention to the Army by investing in modern equipment, weapons, and military hardware; correspondingly, this requires the development of education and training of high-quality human resources to meet the requirements of building and developing a revolutionary, regular, elite, and modern Army.

To achieve that goal, in line with the principle of "people first, weapons second," strengthening the high-quality human resources in the Army is one of the top priorities. Therefore, military recruitment and improving the quality of entry into military academies and schools are identified as fundamental factors in selecting candidates who meet the standards in terms of political qualities, education, health, and age for training.

"Doing a good job in military recruitment not only continues to build trust among students, their families, and the people regarding the training environment in the Army, but also contributes to further spreading the noble image of Uncle Ho's soldiers," Major General Phung Thi Phu affirmed.
