Nine months ago, the Indonesian Football Federation (PSSI) appointed Patrick Kluivert as the head coach of the Indonesian national team on a two-year contract, with a salary of approximately 2.5 billion rupiah per month (about $150,000 USD/month).
After nine months of work, PSSI had paid the Dutch strategist more than $1.35 million. And when they fired him, Kluivert still had 15 months left on his contract.
According to Kompas newspaper, there will be no "sparing agreement" between the two parties to reduce the compensation amount. PSSI is obligated to pay the full salary for the remaining 15 months of coach Kluivert's contract.
Therefore, PSSI must compensate coach Kluivert with approximately $2.25 million. This is just for the Dutch strategist personally.
In addition, the Indonesian football governing body also has to compensate the staff who accompanied Coach Kluivert, totaling approximately $2.5 million.
The total compensation PSSI has to pay regarding the dismissal of coach Kluivert amounts to nearly 5 million USD, or approximately 130 billion VND.
In early 2025, PSSI had to pay compensation of up to $3.6 million (95 billion VND) to dismiss coach Shin Tae Yong, who still had two and a half years left on his contract and was earning $1.5 million per year at the time.
Thus, in just the past 9 months, PSSI has spent over 200 billion VND solely on compensation for the dismissal of coaches.
