This statement was made by Mr. Nova Arianto, head coach of the Indonesian U17 team. The young football team of the archipelago will face Brazil in the 2025 U17 World Cup taking place in early November.
Bola newspaper quoted Mr. Arianto: "I just watched Japan's 3-2 win over Brazil, this is the first time I've seen such a match, it was perfect. So I told the players before the match ended that anything can happen."
The match Mr. Arianto was referring to was Japan's spectacular 3-2 comeback against Brazil, a friendly that took place during the FIFA Days in October.
"Brazil has always been very strong at the professional level, but at the U17 level, things could be different. Those are factors like spirit, fitness, discipline... Things could be different and we could beat them," Mr. Arianto added.
Indonesia U17 impressed by winning a ticket to the 2025 U17 World Cup, taking place in Qatar from early November. Together with host Qatar, they are one of the 9 Asian teams participating in the tournament.
The 2025 U17 World Cup will feature 48 teams, the same as the 2026 World Cup. Indonesia are in Group H, along with Brazil, Honduras and Zambia. They will face Zambia on November 4, before facing Brazil three days later.
Two years earlier, Indonesia had also participated in the U17 World Cup as hosts. They made a good impression by drawing with Ecuador and Panama, only losing to Morocco in the group stage.
