Over the past 35 years, the Quang Tri Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has seriously implemented the policies and directives of higher authorities, proactively deploying many effective plans and solutions in carrying out its assigned tasks; the entire staff of officials, civil servants, and employees of the department have always upheld the spirit of solidarity, dynamism, creativity, and dedication in their work; along with the active participation of all sectors of the population, the cultural sector has achieved many impressive results. This has made a significant contribution to the socio-economic development of the province, improved the spiritual life of the people, and spread a beautiful image of the land and people of Quang Tri to friends both domestically and internationally.

Diverse and rich cultural activities

Over the years, Quang Tri's Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has implemented cultural policies and guidelines based on the people, with the people as the foundation, and the people enjoying the fruits of creation, with the goal of improving the cultural and spiritual life of the people.

Cultural activities and events are organized in diverse and rich forms, suitable to local customs and social realities. In particular, over the past 10 years, the province has successfully organized many major festivals and commemorations such as: the National Reunification Festival; the commemoration of the birthday of General Secretary Le Duẩn; the 45th anniversary of Cuban President Fidel Castro's visit to the liberated areas of Quang Tri province; and the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Quang Tri province...

The Culture, Sports and Tourism sector is also strengthening cultural exchange and integration activities to promote and introduce the land and people of Quang Tri to domestic and international friends through cultural activities, art performances, film festivals, high-level sports competitions, and tourism promotion, advertising, and investment.

The province implements cooperation in cultural development, tourism, information and communication with Savannakhet province (Laos), Mukdahan province (Thailand), and other provinces along the East-West Economic Corridor; and organizes propaganda activities to serve important political and social events of the province and the nation, as well as other foreign affairs events.

The province's art troupes have participated in performances in several countries such as Thailand and Laos... Through these activities, they aim to exchange and promote the province's cultural products and traditional cultural values, while selectively absorbing the cultural essence of other ethnic groups.

Many impressive achievements

According to Ho Van Hoan, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the decisive involvement of Party committees at all levels has created positive changes in the awareness of officials, Party members, and all strata of the people, receiving the unanimous support of society and creating breakthroughs in the field of culture.

As of August 31, 2023, Quang Tri province had 95% of families recognized as culturally exemplary families; 96.8% of villages, hamlets, and neighborhoods met cultural standards; 98 out of 125 communes, wards, and towns had cultural and sports centers meeting standards; and 772 out of 800 villages, hamlets, and neighborhoods had cultural houses and sports facilities...

The activities commemorating major holidays were successfully organized, achieving the set goals and requirements, and creating a profound impression on the people and friends both domestically and internationally. These achievements were recognized and highly appreciated by the Party and State leaders, leaders of central ministries and agencies, provinces and cities, and the people and tourists both domestically and internationally, thereby contributing to promoting the image and enhancing the position of Quang Tri province.

Furthermore, the successful preservation and vibrant organization of numerous festivals and cultural and sporting activities, in line with the civilized lifestyle, cultural traditions of the nation, and the fine customs and practices of each locality, have created a colorful tapestry in the spiritual life of the people.

In the work of preserving and promoting intangible cultural heritage values, the Provincial People's Committee has compiled a national dossier on "Bài Chòi Art of Central Vietnam" to submit to UNESCO for recognition as a representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity, and it was inscribed by UNESCO in 2017; the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism recognized the Arieuping festival of the Vân Kiều and Pa Kô ethnic groups as a national intangible cultural heritage.

Surveys and inventories of hundreds of intangible cultural heritage sites in the province have been conducted. The collection of artifacts, images, historical documents, and exhibition work are regularly carried out by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism. To date, Quang Tri has 4 national treasures recognized by the Prime Minister, and 33,000 original documents and artifacts are stored in museums.

The work of honoring artisans and bestowing titles upon artists, and encouraging artists who have made significant contributions, has received attention. Through various awarding ceremonies, the province currently has 27 artisans who have been awarded or posthumously awarded the prestigious title of "Outstanding Artisan" by the President of Vietnam; 1 Ho Chi Minh Prize, 4 State Prizes for Literature and Arts; 2 People's Artists and 9 Outstanding Artists.

Numerous exhibitions of paintings, sculptures, and photographs were organized in conjunction with major political events of the country and the province. The successful organization of the literary and artistic creation contest with the theme "Quang Tri - 50 years of construction, innovation and development" (1972-2022) was achieved; in coordination with the Department of Exhibitions, Fine Arts, and Photography, the 27th Regional Fine Arts Exhibition (North Central Vietnam) was successfully organized with the participation of 150 authors and over 150 works; and the 29th Northern Central Vietnam Regional Art Photography Festival was successfully organized in August 2023...

The literary and artistic activities of the artists and writers have been vibrant in both breadth and depth, achieving encouraging results such as the State Prize for Literature and Arts and the Vietnam Musicians Association Prize. Many authors, with their literary and artistic works on the themes of "Studying and following the thoughts, ethics, and style of Ho Chi Minh," revolutionary war, and the land and people of Quang Tri, have left a strong mark on the flow of national literature and art.

In particular, during the first six months of 2024, with the attention and support of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Quang Tri province hosted and co-organized many sports events, attracting a large number of athletes and spectators from all over the country to compete and cheer, meeting the demand for enjoying high-performance sports among the people of Quang Tri.

In particular, the province's organization of the 2024 Peace Festival contributes to promoting and introducing the image and people of Quang Tri to international friends, honoring the values ​​of peace. Through this, it inspires and encourages officials, Party members, and the people to actively compete in labor, production, and learning to build a more civilized, prosperous, and beautiful province.
