Recently, the Ministry of Science and Technology issued Circular 01 amending and supplementing a number of contents in the appendix issued with Circular 08/2011 of the Ministry of Information and Communications stipulating the "List of radio equipment exempted from radio frequency use licenses, technical conditions and accompanying exploitation".
This is the first circular issued by the new Ministry of Science and Technology after merging the old Ministry of Science and Technology with the Ministry of Information and Communications.
One of the notable points of the new circular is the approval of an additional 500 MHz of spectrum in the 6 GHz band (frequency range 5925 - 6425 MHz) for wireless local area network (WLAN/RLAN) devices, commonly known as Wi-Fi, to operate under a license-exempt basis.
According to the Radio Frequency Department (Ministry of Science and Technology), this is an important step to meet the increasing demand for wireless connection speed and capacity, contributing to promoting the development of telecommunications infrastructure and national digital infrastructure.
The new circular marks the expansion of Wi-Fi spectrum in Vietnam, increasing by nearly 75% compared to the total existing Wi-Fi spectrum (about 663.5 MHz in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands), promising to pave the way for new generation Wi-Fi devices such as Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 to operate in Vietnam with full features and maximum bandwidth, providing superior connection speeds, significantly improving the wireless Internet experience of both individual users and businesses.
The addition of 500 MHz of 6 GHz band for Wi-Fi is expected to be a strong boost for future technologies and applications such as virtual reality, augmented reality, 4K/8K high-quality video streaming and IoT services.
In addition, the Ministry of Science and Technology also issued Circular No. 02 on Radio Frequency Channel Allocation Planning for Fixed Services in the 71 - 76 GHz and 81 - 86 GHz bands. The Circular applies to organizations and individuals participating in the management and use of radio frequencies; organizations and individuals manufacturing, importing, and trading radio equipment for use in Vietnam.
The goal is to establish order in the use of radio frequency channels, unify applicable standards, ensure reasonable, effective and economical management and use of radio frequencies to meet the demand for high-speed radio transmission in the 71 - 76 GHz and 81 - 86 GHz bands.
