Couple prosecuted for trafficking prohibited goods.

GĐXH - Hue City Police have initiated legal proceedings against a man and woman residing in Quang Tri province after discovering 3,000 packs of smuggled cigarettes of unknown origin in the car they were using.

On May 22nd, the Hue City Police issued a decision to prosecute and detain Dang Huu Tao (born in 1971) and prohibit Nguyen Thi Phuong (born in 1974), both residing in Quang Tri province, from leaving their place of residence for the crime of "Trafficking in prohibited goods".

The suspects were apprehended by authorities while transporting contraband.

Earlier, at Km 800+700 on National Highway 1A (Dong Lam residential area, Phong Thai ward), the Economic Police Department, in coordination with the Traffic Police Department and the Phong Thai Ward Police, stopped and inspected a car with license plate 74A-xxx.xx driven by Tao, carrying Phuong as a passenger.

During the inspection, authorities discovered and seized 1,000 packs of JET SPECIAL cigarettes and 2,000 packs of ESSE CHANGE cigarettes. In total, 3,000 packs of smuggled cigarettes were found without invoices or documentation, and their origin was unknown.

The suspects confessed that although they knew that buying, transporting, and selling smuggled cigarettes was against the law, they colluded and agreed to carry out the act for personal gain. Initial investigations indicate that the suspects illegally profited tens of millions of dong.
