Since the April 30th - May 1st holiday, when the peak season for beach and island tourism begins, the Pham Van Dong road from Hai Phong city center down to the Do Son tourist area has frequently witnessed traffic congestion every weekend.

Speaking to Nguoi Dua Tin (The Informer) , Mr. Pham Hoang Tuan, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Do Son District, Hai Phong City , said that the reason for the high increase in the number of tourists since the beginning of summer is due to the prolonged hot weather and the attractiveness of some new tourism products that the locality has put into operation.

These include the Vung Huong public beach and the water park within the tourist area in Van Huong ward. In addition, the investor plans to introduce several unique tourism products in the mangrove forest area of Bang La ward in the near future.

According to Mr. Pham Hoang Tuan, Do Son district aims to welcome 3.8 million tourists in 2024. In the first six months of 2024, the locality achieved more than 60% of the year's plan (welcoming 2.3 million visitors), an increase of more than 1.4 times compared to the same period in 2023.

“The accommodation system in Do Son district basically meets the increasing demand of tourists. The entire district has 137 accommodation establishments with 4,480 rooms.”

"In addition, food and beverage service establishments have been invested in and spread throughout the beaches of Unit 295, Zones 1, 2, 3, and Vung Huong public beach… attracting a large number of locals and tourists," said Mr. Pham Hoang Tuan.

Besides Do Son tourist area, Cat Ba tourist area also benefited from the prolonged hot weather during this peak season for beach and island tourism. According to information from the People's Committee of Cat Hai district, Hai Phong city, in June 2023, Cat Ba welcomed more than 600,000 tourists.

This will bring the total number of tourists to Cat Ba in the first six months of 2024 to over 1.6 million, compared to the annual target of 3.6 million, with revenue from food and accommodation services estimated at nearly 1,500 billion VND.

Although not experiencing the impressive growth of Do Son tourism, Cat Ba tourism is confident in achieving its set goals because the number of tourists is projected to continue increasing during the remaining two summer months (July and August 2024). The allure of the World Natural Heritage site of Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba Archipelago shows no signs of waning, and the traffic congestion problem has been resolved with the company proactively reducing cable car prices by 50% and new ferries soon to be put into operation.

In particular, unlike tourism in Do Son, Cat Ba tourism has its own strengths that attract international tourists who enjoy experiences and exploration during the off-season for island and beach tourism (Autumn - Winter).

According to information from the Hai Phong City Department of Tourism, the impressive growth of the two tourist areas of Do Son and Cat Ba in recent times has helped the city's tourism sector achieve a strong breakthrough. In June 2024 alone, Hai Phong tourism is estimated to have welcomed nearly 1.2 million visitors, an increase of 17.34% compared to the same period in 2023. Of these, international tourists accounted for over 90,000, and revenue from accommodation and food services is estimated at over 1,400 billion VND.

In the first six months of 2024, Hai Phong's tourism sector is estimated to have welcomed and served nearly 4.3 million visitors, an increase of 16.25% compared to the same period in 2023 and reaching 47% of the annual plan. Revenue from food and accommodation services is estimated at over 5,100 billion VND.

To achieve the target of welcoming 9.1 million tourists in 2024, from now until the end of the year, Hai Phong's tourism industry will continue to work with localities, especially Do Son district and Cat Hai district, focusing on further exploiting the strengths of coastal and island tourism, overcoming difficulties and obstacles related to traffic congestion, and improving service quality.

In addition, the goal is to gradually transform the two key tourist areas of Hai Phong City, Cat Ba and Do Son, into "four-season destinations," instead of the current situation where they are crowded with tourists in the summer but sparsely populated in the other seasons .
