Professor and musician Chu Minh is one of the few veteran musicians in Vietnamese music . His real name is Trieu Dat Hien, born in 1931. He started learning the violin at the age of 11. After the August Revolution succeeded, Trieu Dat Hien volunteered to join the resistance. He began using the pen name Chu Minh to compose the songs “Viet Trung Xo” and “Chien Thang Bien Gioi” in 1950.

Musician Chu Minh writes instrumental music. His musical style is lyrical, philosophical and thoughtful, even in songs, symphonic and chamber music, as well as music for stage and cinema.

During his years studying at a music university in China, Chu Minh wrote the 3-movement symphonic suite “Southern Frontline”, which was performed by the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing in late 1963, and was also conducted by Tran Quy in a performance in Novosibirsk (Russia) in 1987. The work also became one of the “classics” and successes of Vietnam’s new symphonic music. His other instrumental works such as the symphonic suite “Red Scarf”, Piano Concerto “Youth”, One-movement Symphony “Dong Loc Intersection”, “String Trio”… were all highly acclaimed.

Musician Chu Minh also composed many songs, but the most prominent are two classic works of Vietnamese music: "We are proud to go up, oh Vietnam" and "You are the belief in certain victory". Of these, the song "You are the belief in certain victory" was composed and performed right after the days when President Ho Chi Minh passed away. With the pain in his heart and a strong belief in Uncle Ho's brilliant ideology and morality, the song was written in a two-part form, opening with a slow melody and heartfelt lyrics: "The country bows, forever grateful, His name lives forever with the mountains and rivers of Vietnam"; followed by a respectful melody: "A faithful oath, following Uncle Ho's call. Four thousand years accumulated today, He lives in millions of hearts". The music in the b section rises high, expressing deep respect when mentioning Uncle Ho's name. The rhythm also rushes towards a climax to the final sentence affirming a steadfast belief in Uncle Ho's ideals: "Ho Chi Minh, Uncle Ho Chi Minh. The most beautiful name is yours, shining brightly on the mountains and rivers. For independence and freedom, the path forward is bright with the star-spangled flag. Ho Chi Minh, beloved Uncle Ho Chi Minh, you are the shining belief in certain victory."

The melody repeated in verse 2 with only 11 musical sentences, the love, respect and strong belief in Uncle Ho's ideal once again affirms his position and image in the hearts of the nation and friends of the world : "The world bows. Humanity mourns. Here is the soldier fighting for freedom. He is the dream of the nations. His voice echoes to the future. Wish to follow the path he took. Ho Chi Minh, Uncle Ho Chi Minh. Oh, his heart is heavy with gratitude to all directions. For independence and freedom, the path forward is bright with the star-spangled flag. Ho Chi Minh, beloved Uncle Ho Chi Minh. He is the bright belief in victory".

More than 50 years have passed since Uncle Ho passed away, but the song still evokes deep emotions in listeners, along with sorrow and deep admiration for a great man, a world cultural celebrity.
