General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense, spoke at the groundbreaking ceremony of 3 projects in Ca Mau province.

Speaking at the Ca Mau bridge, General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense emphasized: The groundbreaking and inauguration ceremonies of large-scale projects at 80 bridges across the country are important political events, arousing national pride, the will to build and protect the Fatherland, creating momentum for socio-economic development, strengthening regional connectivity, contributing to realizing the growth target of over 8% in 2025 and double digits in the following years.

Of these, the three projects starting construction in Ca Mau today have strategic significance in connecting the North-South expressway to the southernmost point of the country, connecting the mainland with Hon Khoai Island, aiming to develop this area into the "southernmost continent" of the country.

Accordingly, the Ca Mau - Dat Mui expressway is nearly 93 km long, divided into two sections: Ca Mau - Cai Nuoc (42 km) and Cai Nuoc - Dat Mui (more than 50 km). The route is designed according to class A expressway standards with 4 lanes, continuous emergency lanes, 24.75 m wide roadbed, expected to be completed in the period 2025 - 2028. Connecting to the end of the Cai Nuoc - Dat Mui expressway is the traffic road project to Hon Khoai island with a total length of more than 18 km (including more than 17 km of oversea bridge).

The project is designed with 4 lanes according to the standards of a grade 3 delta road, with a design speed of 80 km/h. This is the longest sea-crossing bridge in Southeast Asia, a symbol of Vietnam's image on the world map; with a highly aesthetic design, creating a unique architectural highlight for the southernmost part of the country.

The General assigned tasks to the army's corps and construction corporations to urgently deploy, ensure progress, quality, safety and application of advanced technology. The 3 projects are invested by Project Management Board 166 of the Ministry of National Defense and constructed by Corps 12.

The Hon Khoai Dual-Use Port Project is being built on Hon Khoai Island, Dat Mui Commune, and will be implemented in two phases: The initial phase will cover an area of 590.5 hectares, including the expansion of the island by about 82 hectares. The main items include: a 1,000-meter-long wharf with a capacity of 20 million tons/year; dredging of the water area, shipping channel and turning basin with an area of about 203 hectares, capable of receiving general cargo ships and containers up to 250,000 DWT. Along with that is a system of breakwaters, protective embankments, embankments and military wharfs, port technical infrastructure, auxiliary barracks and synchronous equipment.

In the completion phase, the port will be expanded to a total area of 686 hectares, becoming a strategic seaport center, meeting the needs of socio-economic development and national defense tasks in the southernmost region of the country.

Chairman of Ca Mau Provincial People's Committee Pham Thanh Ngai affirmed his determination to coordinate with investors and contractors to complete the project on schedule.

Chairman of the People's Committee of Ca Mau province Pham Thanh Ngai said that the leaders, authorities and people of Ca Mau province are determined to promptly complete all site clearance work, relocate technical infrastructure and promptly disburse allocated capital, ensuring compliance with the prescribed schedule.

The province will step up propaganda and mobilization so that people understand, agree with and comply with the policies of the Party and State, and resolutely not let projects be delayed due to site clearance problems.

The provincial leaders and authorities will closely follow the situation, promptly resolve difficulties and problems, implement openly, transparently and objectively; ensure that the new place of residence of the people is better than the old place. This is the responsibility and commitment of the province to the people of Ca Mau Cape.
