Speaking at the event, Mr. Nguyen Thai Binh - Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Ho Chi Minh City Law Newspaper said that the program aims to propagate and raise awareness of law compliance for fishermen in Ca Mau when fishing and exploiting at sea, aiming to remove the IUU yellow card and develop the sustainable fisheries industry.

“This is also to encourage and support fishermen to stay at sea to develop the economy and promote patriotism. Thereby, it arouses the sentiment and sense of responsibility to protect the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland among the people,” Mr. Binh shared.
Also at the event, Vice Chairman of Ca Mau Provincial People's Committee Le Van Su said that Ca Mau is one of the provinces with a large fishing fleet, with more than 4,300 fishing vessels and an output of over 230,000 tons.
These fleets not only promote economic development and create jobs, but also affirm national sovereignty at sea. According to Mr. Su, in recent times, Ca Mau province and the whole country have resolutely and synchronously implemented solutions and tasks to combat IUU fishing and sustainably develop the fisheries sector.

“Many important results have been achieved such as installing voyage monitoring equipment on fishing vessels of 15 meters or more; applying information technology in the management and control of fishing vessels; inspecting and controlling 100% of fishing vessels entering and leaving ports…”, Mr. Su said.
Also on this occasion, the program's organizers directly presented gifts to 100 fishing families (over 5 million VND/gift); awarded 25 scholarships (2 million VND and 1 set of study tools/gift) to students who overcame difficulties and excelled in their studies; offered incense at the memorial site for victims of storm No. 5 (storm Linda)...
Talking about this meaningful activity, Mr. Le Van Su - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ca Mau province said that the organization of the program "Lighting up the sea with fishermen" by Ho Chi Minh City Law Newspaper in Ca Mau province is very necessary, timely to encourage fishermen to go out to sea and determined to do a good job in combating IUU fishing.
At the same time, the leaders of Ca Mau province also requested the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and related units to continue spreading the meaning and value of the program throughout the province.
