Wood-roasted coffee - a rustic flavor from the village.

(NLĐO) - I love iced black coffee brewed in a filter every morning, made with coffee beans roasted by my mother.

For me, the best cup of coffee doesn't come from an expensive coffee machine or a fancy, luxurious cafe, but rather from my family's coffee plantation in Buon Ma Thuot, where I was born and raised.

My family's coffee plantation in Buon Ma Thuot

I am an Ede person who has been connected to coffee cultivation for generations. I understand the arduous journey that creates that distinctive bitter flavor, a flavor I can no longer find when I study or work in Ho Chi Minh City.

During harvest season, my family still uses the traditional method of manually picking each ripe, bright red coffee berry. Only when the berries are fully ripe will the coffee beans reach their best quality.

After drying the coffee beans in the harsh sun, alongside the bags of coffee sold to wholesalers, my mother always set aside some beans to roast directly over a wood-fired stove.

My mother sat roasting coffee beans over a blazing fire, the smoke rising and mingling with the rich aroma. Her calloused hands stirred the beans, each one changing from pale green to reddish-brown and then glossy black. The fragrance spread throughout the house.

I love iced black filter coffee every morning.

I love my morning iced black coffee, brewed with my mother's own roasted beans. Add a little sugar, stir well, then add ice. One cup like that is enough to lift my spirits for a day's work.

For my village, coffee is meant to be sipped and enjoyed every morning, to share stories with family and neighbors.

Nowadays, with many new brewing trends, the simplicity and purity of hand-roasted coffee remain my top choice. Coffee beans from the village plantations always carry the aspiration to reach further. I believe that with kindness in the production process, Vietnamese coffee can conquer the world with its original flavor and rich national identity.
