According to information published by Chosun Ilbo, the Seodaemun Police Station in Seoul has completed its investigation into a case related to violations of the Medical Act. A total of six individuals have been recommended for prosecution without pretrial detention. Most prominent on this list are the male artist PSY, a professor working at a university hospital in Seoul, and his manager. The case stems from suspicions that the 49-year-old singer received a prescription remotely and then asked his manager to pick up the medication for him.
Investigators determined that this activity occurred between February 2022 and July 2025. The two medications the artist used were Xanax and Stilnox. According to current South Korean medical regulations, doctors are required to examine patients before prescribing medication. Furthermore, patients must personally pick up their medication. The law only relaxes this requirement in cases where the patient is in a coma or has significant mobility impairments. However, PSY's health condition did not meet these exceptions.

According to medical experts, Xanax and Stilnox are medications used to treat depression, anxiety disorders, and insomnia. Because they are psychotropic drugs, they carry a very high risk of addiction if abused. Therefore, a direct medical examination is mandatory to ensure user safety. If convicted of violating this law, offenders could face a maximum sentence of one year in prison or a fine of ten million won.
As soon as the controversy erupted in the media, P NATION, the management company, quickly issued an official statement. The company admitted that allowing the manager to receive the sleeping pills on behalf of the singer was a careless and negligent act. However, the company's representative firmly denied the accusation of falsifying prescriptions or prescribing medication on behalf of someone else. They stated that the singer actually suffers from a chronic sleep disorder, and his medication use was entirely in accordance with the treatment plan prescribed by his doctor.
Before his current legal troubles, Park Jae Sang had achieved numerous brilliant successes in his artistic career. Born in 1977, he entered the entertainment industry as a singer and rapper. His name truly exploded globally after the release of his hit song "Gangnam Style" in 2012. The song created a huge sensation in the world music industry.
One of the most memorable milestones occurred on November 24, 2012, when the "Gangnam Style" music video officially broke the record of Justin Bieber's "Baby." This song became the most-viewed video in YouTube history at the time, establishing PSY's name as an enduring pop culture icon.
