According to Vietnam Customs, as of July 15, 2025, the export turnover of VAT pangasius reached 28 million USD, recording a growth rate of 47% over the same period in 2024.
The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) said that the US is the leading market in terms of growth rate and import scale. In the first 6 months of the year alone, this market spent nearly 10 million USD to import VAT catfish from Vietnam, a figure that skyrocketed 459% (equivalent to 5.5 times) compared to the same period. With this result, the US currently accounts for 38% of Vietnam's VAT catfish export market share. In the second quarter of 2025 alone, the US increased 332% in importing this product, with a value of more than 5 million USD.
Thailand ranked second, with import turnover reaching 4 million USD in the first 6 months of the year, up 9% and accounting for 14% of the market share. Other important markets such as the UK, Australia, Japan, the Netherlands and Malaysia also showed stable demand for this deeply processed product line (HS code 16).
In addition, although the export value is still quite "modest", the growth rate of pangasius exports HS16 to some markets such as Sweden, Cambodia, China, and Canada was quite impressive in the first half of this year, at 324%, 232%, 185%, and 164%, respectively.
According to VESEP, although the export value of Vietnamese pangasius only accounts for 2.5% of the total value of Vietnamese pangasius exported to markets, it still maintains growth and shows strong development potential.
In the complicated context of the economy , especially the impacts from the White House's tariff policy, VAT pangasius exports are expected to continue to maintain positive results, contributing significantly to the journey to the billion-dollar destination of the entire industry by 2025.
