According to data from Vietnam Customs, as of July 15, 2025, the export value of pangasius fish reached US$28 million, recording a growth of 47% compared to the same period in 2024.
According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Processing and Export (VASEP), the US is currently the leading market in terms of growth rate and import volume. In the first six months of the year alone, the US spent nearly $10 million importing value-added pangasius from Vietnam, a surge of 459% (equivalent to 5.5 times) compared to the same period last year. With this result, the US now accounts for 38% of Vietnam's value-added pangasius export market share. In the second quarter of 2025 alone, US imports of this product increased by 332%, reaching over $5 million.
Thailand ranked second, with import turnover reaching US$4 million in the first six months of the year, a 9% increase and accounting for 14% of the market share. Other important markets such as the UK, Australia, Japan, the Netherlands, and Malaysia also showed stable demand for this processed product line (HS code 16).
Furthermore, although the export value remains relatively "modest," the growth rate of pangasius exports under HS code 16 to several markets such as Sweden, Cambodia, China, and Canada has been quite impressive in the first half of this year, at 324%, 232%, 185%, and 164% respectively.
According to VESEP, although the export value of Vietnamese value-added pangasius accounts for only 2.5% of the total value of Vietnamese pangasius exports to all markets, it still maintains growth and shows strong development potential.
Amidst the complex economic landscape, particularly the impacts of the White House's tariff policies, value-added pangasius exports are expected to continue their positive performance, making a significant contribution to the industry's goal of reaching a billion-dollar market by 2025.
