“We have completed the list of the Vietnamese chess team participating in the 2025 World Cup. We have 3 official slots for this tournament: grandmasters Le Quang Liem, Le Tuan Minh, Pham Le Thao Nguyen”, said Mr. Nguyen Minh Thang, in charge of the chess department (Vietnam Sports Administration) and also Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Chess Federation.
Vietnamese chess team won 2 official slots from the results of the men's and women's chess teams at the 2024 Olympiad World Team Championship. After the World Chess Federation (FIDE) announced that Vietnam would receive 1 official slot for each event, the coaching staff of the Vietnamese chess team calculated and selected grandmasters Le Tuan Minh and Pham Le Thao Nguyen to receive these slots.
Grandmaster Le Quang Liem's chance to qualify for the 2025 World Cup is based on his ranking in the top 20 in the world.
According to the FIDE schedule, the 2025 Women's World Cup will take place in July in Batumi (Georgia) and the 2025 Men's World Cup is scheduled to be held in November in India.
Previously, the Vietnamese chess team tried to find more places to attend the 2025 World Cup through the 2025 Asian Championship, but we were not successful, so we only got 3 official places.
