Important habits
Tet is also the time when parties take place more often, causing us to eat more. Excess energy will be stored as fat under the skin, leading to rapid weight gain.
Additionally, many people tend to be less active during the holidays. Less activity equates to fewer calories burned each day, leading to increased fat storage.
According to experts, balancing proper nutrition during Tet is very important.
According to the recommendation of Dr. Truong Hong Son, Director of the Vietnam Institute of Applied Medicine, a balanced and reasonable diet during Tet is very important. Therefore, everyone should maintain the following eating habits to limit the risk of weight gain:
- You should eat regularly and on time, and maintain the habit of eating meals at the same time every day. This is a good way to avoid overeating, because when you miss a meal, you will tend to eat more at the next meal to satisfy your hunger.
- Eat slowly, chew thoroughly, eat until you are no longer hungry and just full, do not eat too much. Increase your intake of healthy foods such as lean meat, fresh fruit, green vegetables, whole grains rich in fiber. Add healthy fats such as avocado, nuts such as almonds, cashews, walnuts... to your diet.
- During a meal, you should eat vegetables first, then food, and finally rice.
- Limit eating foods of animal origin that contain a lot of cholesterol (fatty meat, lard, butter, animal organs...). Limit eating fried foods, because high temperatures can destroy unsaturated fatty acids.
- Limit salty foods: When preparing traditional Tet dishes, you can consider adding less salt and less fish sauce or soy sauce.
- Limit foods and drinks with added sugar. These foods include candy, sweet jams, soft drinks, dishes with added sugar during cooking, etc.
- Limit alcohol, beer, cigarettes and stimulants.
In addition, Dr. Son said that studies show that if you stop exercising, your body will become weak after a few weeks. Therefore, the right way is to maintain moderate exercise during the holidays instead of stopping completely.
People can choose forms of exercise such as outdoor exercise if the weather is nice. If the weather is not favorable, you can exercise right in the room with on-the-spot exercises, squats, planks, health exercises, qigong, yoga, sit-ups...
If you are busy during Tet, you can divide your workout into smaller sessions, 15 minutes in the morning and 15 minutes in the afternoon, avoid exercising when hungry or right after eating... make sure you exercise for 30 minutes/session. Or you should take advantage of physical activity whenever possible, such as doing housework, cooking, cleaning...
The secret to eating banh chung without gaining weight
To eat banh chung without gaining weight during Tet, nutritionist Truong Hong Son recommends not eating fried banh chung because it often accumulates a lot of fat. Eating too much can cause bloating, flatulence, indigestion and make you gain weight quickly.
Do not eat fried banh chung to avoid accumulating too much fat.
To reduce the energy from banh chung, you should only eat banh chung for breakfast or lunch. After eating, your body will be more active to help burn off the fat in banh chung. You should not eat banh chung for dinner because it will make you feel full, have indigestion, and lose sleep. Each time you eat, you should only eat about 100g of cake, which is 1/10 of a banh chung.
If you have eaten banh chung, you should not eat other starchy foods such as rice, sticky rice, and bread. If your body takes in too much starch in one meal, it will lead to weight gain and obesity.
Usually, eating banh chung will make you feel very full. Therefore, you should not eat too much because it is not good for your body's digestion. Especially during Tet, if you do not want to gain weight, you should stay away from foods that contain a lot of fat and oil.
Eating banh chung with green vegetables is a great source of fiber to help the digestive system work better. You can eat banh chung with pickled vegetables, pickled onions... however, these are foods that are not suitable for people with kidney disease, diabetes...
