Safe and effective handling methods

Công LuậnCông Luận23/09/2024

When you discover that an electronic device has been submerged in water, the first and most important thing to do is disconnect the power and remove the battery (if possible). This helps prevent short circuits and dangerous fires or explosions. If the device is still connected to power, water can easily penetrate it, and electricity can be transmitted to unwanted components, leading to serious damage.

After ensuring the device is disconnected from the power supply, the next step is to clean off all the mud and water.

Remove the outer casing of the device, then gently shake or turn it upside down to allow all the water to drain out.

Use clean water to wash away any mud, as mud can damage electrical circuits and internal components.

After cleaning, wipe the parts dry with a soft cloth before storing the device in a cool, dry place.

Thorough cleaning is essential to remove impurities that could damage the components later.

Household electronics were submerged in mud and water after the storm.

Dry the equipment properly.

After cleaning, the next step is to dry the device. Users can leave the device in a well-ventilated area or use a fan to speed up the evaporation of water. However, drying with a hairdryer requires caution. According to experts from the Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), improper drying can cause water to penetrate deeper into the components.

If using a hair dryer, only use it on a low heat setting (50-60°C) and avoid continuous drying. Dry for about 2-3 minutes at a time, then stop and allow the device to cool down before continuing. This helps prevent damage to internal components due to excessive heat.

Inspect and replace faulty components.

After the device has been completely dried, thoroughly inspect the internal components. Critical parts such as wiring, circuit boards, switches, fuses, and electrical boxes should be carefully checked. If any signs of damage or oxidation are detected, replace them immediately to avoid future problems.

If users are unsure about the condition of their device, they should take it to a reputable service center for inspection and repair.

Don't rush to reuse it.

After performing the steps above, do not turn on the device immediately. Wait a few more days to ensure that the device is completely dry and free of moisture. Electronic devices, when exposed to moisture, are more susceptible to short circuits or fires if not used completely dry.
