200MP camera coming soon on iPhone 18, Android will use it from 2022

The iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max launched next year will be equipped with a 200 megapixel camera, a feature that has appeared on Android smartphones for many years (Illustration: Getty).

According to an article posted on Digital Chat Station, a Weibo social network account that regularly shares fairly accurate leaked information about Apple's upcoming products, the "apple" is currently testing a 200 megapixel main camera on the iPhone 18.

The article does not reveal many more details, but it is likely that only the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max duo will be upgraded to 200 megapixel cameras, while the standard versions will still retain the old camera system.

With a 200 megapixel main camera, the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max promise to deliver sharper, more detailed photos, allowing users to easily crop or print large-sized photos without losing quality.

If the information from Digital Chat Station is correct, the upcoming iPhone 17 series will still only be equipped with a maximum 48-megapixel main camera, similar to current iPhone versions.

The upgrade to a 200 megapixel camera is considered a significant step forward for the iPhone, as Apple has been increasing camera resolution quite slowly compared to market trends.

However, the reality shows that 200 megapixel cameras have appeared on Android smartphones since 2022. The first device to own this feature is Motorola Edge 30 Ultra, launched in August 2022.

Currently, most high-end Android smartphones are equipped with 200 megapixel main cameras, which means that the feature considered the highlight of the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max is actually no longer new to the market.

The tech world has long criticized Apple for being slower than many of its competitors in updating new trends, from foldable phones to artificial intelligence features.

It seems that the fact that the iPhone still maintains its position in the high-end smartphone segment and continues to bring in huge profits has prevented Apple from really venturing into breakthrough innovations, but instead maintaining small upgrades with each generation.
