Practical actions
When mentioning Nguyen Huu Danh, many Youth Union members and young people in Phu Quoi commune remember the image of a Youth Union official always present in community activities, from campaigns to beautify rural roads to caring for people in difficult circumstances.
With the belief that "people mobilization must begin with practical actions that bring concrete benefits to the people," Danh always pondered over finding models suitable to local conditions. This has contributed to the creation of many projects and initiatives bearing the mark of youth.
Notably, he has been involved in local rural development projects. Over the past two years, he and the Youth Union members have implemented more than 10 youth projects: lighting up rural roads, model flower-lined roads, "Propaganda Tire" projects, etc., with a total budget of hundreds of millions of VND.
Notably, the "Banana Lily Nursery" model has provided over 10,000 free seedlings to roads in the commune and many neighboring localities. More than 5,000 lily plants have been planted by Youth Union members along approximately 5km of roads, contributing to changing the face of the rural area.
Along with landscaping projects, Mr. Danh focuses on social welfare models. Models like "Youth Piggy Bank" and "Car Wash Fundraising to Support Education for Our Beloved Younger Siblings" have raised tens of millions of dong to support disadvantaged youth and young people joining the military; and provided scholarships, health insurance, and school supplies to students from difficult circumstances.
Recently, the "Free Breakfast" program, implemented in collaboration with the Phu Quoi Commune Youth Union, has received a positive response. Every Tuesday morning, he wakes up early to prepare portions of bread, bottles of water, and sometimes additional necessities or packets of vegetarian fish sauce donated by benefactors. After preparation, he and the Youth Union members personally deliver the meals to lottery ticket vendors, workers, and students in difficult circumstances.
According to Mr. Danh, each program provides 100 portions of sandwiches and bottled water to lottery ticket vendors, workers, and students in difficult circumstances. To date, the program has been organized 26 times, distributing free meals and becoming a bridge connecting young people with charitable activities.
Participating in the program, Huynh Minh Thien from Cuu Long University shared: “At first, I only participated in helping distribute meals, but after participating many times, I felt the meaning of giving. Seeing the elderly workers receiving their breakfast with happy smiles, I felt that my work was very worthwhile. Thanks to activities like this, I and many other young people have become more involved in the youth union movement.”
Build trust through actions.
Having been involved in youth union work for many years, Huu Danh believes that mass mobilization is not about persuasion through words or slogans, but that sincerity and practical action are most important.
According to him, to attract young people to participate in the movement, it is first necessary to understand what they need and what they care about. Therefore, he regularly meets and talks with them to grasp their thoughts and aspirations. From there, activities are designed to be relevant, practical, and create opportunities for young people to directly demonstrate their role.
"Young people today have many choices and pressures in life. If youth activities are rigid and inflexible, it will be difficult to attract them. We must create an environment where they feel that participating is beneficial, that they can contribute, learn, and grow," Danh shared.
One of his biggest concerns is how to maintain the cohesion of local youth when many of them are studying or working far from home. To overcome this, he utilizes social media platforms to connect, disseminate information, and encourage participation in community activities. The regularly shared stories of inspiring deeds and meaningful actions have contributed to fostering a sense of responsibility among young people.
Mobilizing social resources is also not easy. According to Mr. Danh, in order to persuade organizations and businesses to participate, the activities must be substantive, transparent, and build trust.
"Sponsors are willing to support when they see that resources are used appropriately and effectively. Therefore, every program must be transparent, clear, and have concrete results. Once credibility is established, fundraising will be easier," he said.
Based on that idea, many models of the Youth Union have received support from businesses, banks, philanthropists, and the people. Social resources help maintain social welfare activities and create conditions for many creative ideas of young people to be realized.
Commenting on Mr. Nguyen Huu Danh, Ms. Nguyen Thi Huynh Khuyen - Deputy Secretary of the Phu Quoi Commune Youth Union - shared that what makes this Youth Union official so convincing is his pioneering spirit in all activities. He pays close attention to everything he does, never doing things superficially, but always putting his heart into it. In particular, he works alongside the Youth Union members, not just assigning tasks.
Through concrete and practical actions, Mr. Nguyen Huu Danh has contributed to the development of youth union work and youth movements in the locality, while also spreading a spirit of responsibility and sharing within the community.
