According to Thanh Nien reporters in mid-April 2024, the Cho Mai - Tan My road project still has many unfinished construction items, some points on the route have been paved with gravel, trees have been planted, grass has grown wildly on the median strip... These days, many workers and machines are still completing the paving of sidewalks and asphalt.
Tan My - Cho Mai road project is nearly 4 km long, still in disarray after 6 years of construction.
The prolonged construction has affected the lives of people living nearby. Up to now, although the road has not been handed over and put into use, there is no electricity, many potholes and intersections, however, some vehicles still travel on the road, causing traffic safety risks, especially at night.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Lan, (resident of Phu Thuong Ward, Hue City) was upset: "This road is too slow, affecting our lives, especially accidents and theft."
Workers are rushing to construct the line.
Although not yet put into operation, some vehicles have traveled on this route.
Some sections are littered with materials and rocks, posing many potential traffic safety risks when vehicles pass through.
The Cho Mai - Tan My road project started in August 2018 and is expected to be completed in 3 years. It is a key traffic project connecting many roads in Hue City. The route starts at the intersection with National Highway 49, Pham Van Dong Street, and ends at the intersection with National Highway 49 and the road to Tam Giang Bridge. The total length of the route is about 4 km, the cross-section of the route is completed according to the plan with a 36 m roadbed.
The project is expected to create momentum for the development of regional transportation, attract investors, and build infrastructure. However, for many reasons such as weak ground treatment, unfavorable weather, and especially the contractor's lack of effort, the progress has been delayed, lasting nearly 6 years. In response to the above incident, the project investor, the Thua Thien - Hue Province Urban Development and Investment Project Management Board, has repeatedly extended the contract progress and many contractors have also been fined for delayed construction.
Some sections of the route are not yet paved.
Due to slow construction, the project has had its contract extended many times and many contractors have been fined.
Complete cross-section of the route according to the planning with a 36 m roadbed
The end point of the route intersects with National Highway 49 and the road to Tam Giang Bridge.
Mr. Dang Van Ngoc, Deputy Director of the Thua Thien - Hue Province Urban Development and Investment Project Management Board, said that the unit is directing contractors to work actively to hand over the project soon. These days, workers are trying to take advantage of favorable weather to lay asphalt. It is expected that the road will be handed over and put into use in June 2024.
