That is the Crooked Forest, English name “Crooked Forest”, outside the village of Nowe Czarnowo, West Pomerania province, Poland.
The special thing about the pine trees in this forest is that the lower part of their trunks bends at an angle of about 90 degrees towards the North. However, only 400 pine trees in a small patch of the large pine forest have such a mysterious shape.
The bent pine forest was formed in the 1930s. Their strange growth has made many tourists curious. Many people come to admire the unique trees.
To this day, locals still tell each other stories explaining why the pine forest became like that.

Some believe that the twisted trunks are caused by changes in the Earth's gravity or by snowstorms. Heavy snow buried the pine trees as they were growing, giving them this shape.
Another explanation is that when these pine trees were still saplings, they were crushed by army tanks during World War II, causing the base of the trees to become abnormally crooked.
The most convincing explanation so far is that the deformities of these pines are due to human intervention. A group of farmers straightened the trees after planting them for about 7-10 years starting in 1930. They did this so they could create unique furniture from the crooked stumps.
However, before the forest could be harvested, World War II broke out and its existence was forgotten.
Based on the beautiful curved shape of the tree trunk, many people say that pine trees were shaped to be used in the production of boats and wooden furniture. Until today, the method and purpose of creating the curved shape of the pine forest is still an unanswered question.
Regardless of the reason for the curved pine forest, it remains one of the most beautiful destinations in Poland. It is now not only a tourist attraction but also a filming location for many movies.
