In the Chinese market, the luxury SUV Cadillac XT4 has a starting price of only 159,900 Yuan, equivalent to about 22,200 USD or 559 million VND.

Although General Motors (GM) officially stopped selling the Cadillac XT4 in the US market since January, this luxury small SUV is still "healthy" in China. The car has even been recently upgraded in the billion-people market. What is noteworthy is the extremely cheap price of this car compared to the US market.

Accordingly, in the Chinese market, the Cadillac XT4 has a starting price of only 159,900 yuan, equivalent to about 22,200 USD (about 559 million VND). Meanwhile, in the US, the XT4 has a starting price of nearly double, from 40,795 USD.

In other words, the Chinese can buy a Cadillac XT4 for the same price as a budget compact SUV like the Nissan Kicks. To put that in perspective, GM’s smallest SUV in the U.S. is the 2025 Chevrolet Trax, which starts at $20,500. The Nissan Kicks, meanwhile, starts at $21,520.

This means that American consumers have almost no choice in the low-cost SUV segment, while in China, they can buy luxury cars for that amount of money.

The top-of-the-line version of the 2025 Cadillac XT4 in the Chinese market is only priced at 189,900 yuan (about 26,300 USD or 664 million VND). Meanwhile, in the US, the most expensive version is the XT4 Sport AWD, priced from 45,290 USD.

This price difference partly comes from the engine. The standard version of this model uses a 48V mild hybrid powertrain with a 1.5L turbocharged gasoline engine, producing a maximum capacity of 211 horsepower and a maximum torque of 270 Nm.

The higher-end version of this luxury SUV uses a 48V mild hybrid powertrain with a 2.0L turbocharged gasoline engine, producing a maximum capacity of 237 horsepower and a maximum torque of 350 Nm. Both engines come with a standard 9-speed automatic transmission. In terms of equipment, the version for the Chinese market is almost identical to the car in the US.

The car has optional 20-inch wheels, a 33-inch ultra-wide curved screen with 9K resolution including a digital dashboard and infotainment screen. In addition, the interior also has heated, cooled and massage seats, a heated steering wheel as well as a premium AKG sound system with active noise cancellation.

Overall, Chinese consumers are enjoying something that American buyers can probably only dream of: buying a Cadillac XT4, which is positioned as a luxury SUV, for the price of a compact SUV.

This is a clear demonstration of the growing gap between car prices in China and the US, as well as the increasingly fierce competition in the world's largest car market.
