Receiving the certificate of "Van Tien Poetry Recitation Art" as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage

VHO - On the evening of August 31, at My Hoa Park (Ben Tre Ward), the People's Committee of Vinh Long province held a ceremony to announce the decision to receive "Van Tien Folk Poetry Performance Art of Ben Tre Province" as a national intangible cultural heritage.

Vice Chairwoman of Vinh Long Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thi Quyen Thanh awarded the certificate of National Intangible Cultural Heritage List "Van Tien Folk Poetry Performing Art of Ben Tre Province" to the representative of the Provincial Museum.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairwoman of Vinh Long Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thi Quyen Thanh said: "The folk performing art of Van Tien Poetry Recitation in Ben Tre Province" was included in the List of National Intangible Cultural Heritage by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism in June 2025.

This is the common joy of all the people in the province to have another cultural heritage of the homeland that our ancestors created, built, preserved, passed on, preserved, promoted and shined.

In order to effectively preserve and promote the value of this intangible cultural heritage in the coming time, the Vice Chairman of Vinh Long Provincial People's Committee suggested that local authorities strengthen information and propaganda work in many forms and with rich content to raise awareness of all levels, sectors and people about the meaning and importance of cultural heritage values ​​in general, and "Van Tien Folk Poetry Performing Art of Ben Tre Province" in particular.

The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vinh Long province was assigned to research and develop a project to preserve and promote the value of "Van Tien Poetry Folk Performance Art of Ben Tre Province" associated with the province's cultural activities; build unique cultural tourism products to help visitors explore and experience. At the same time, spread the heritage values ​​and unique cultural features of the locality to people inside and outside the province; organize training courses to pass on Van Tien Poetry Folk Performance to the young generation...

The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in coordination with the Department of Education and Training of the province organizes the teaching and transmission of the art of Van Tien Poetry Recitation to students, including it in extracurricular activities with new content to develop language thinking, moral education and personality for the young generation.

The folk performing art of Van Tien Poetry Recitation in Ben Tre Province” is one of the 19 national intangible cultural heritages of Vinh Long Province. The genre of Van Tien Poetry Recitation is associated with the name and content of the famous Nom poem by poet Nguyen Dinh Chieu, Luc Van Tien. This work was composed by the poet around the early 1850s.

Van Tien spoken poetry is a folk cultural product created by Southern people, originating from the spoken poetry of the Central region but with many improvements (in tone and expression) to suit the language, personality, soul and performance space of the South.

Van Tien's poetic style was born on the basis of the need to popularize patriotic poetry and literature, expressing the spirit of fighting without submitting to tyranny, using intelligence and talent to serve the country and the need to spread morality and honor the virtues of the Vietnamese people.

Taking place from August 29 to September 4, 2025 at My Hoa Park, Hung Vuong Street area, Ben Tre Ward, the "Colorful Ben Tre Riverside" Week organized by Ben Tre Ward People's Committee aims to create a space for people and tourists to visit, have fun, entertain, experience and enjoy cuisine, contributing to promoting the image, cultural identity, stimulating consumption and developing local tourism.

This is also a practical activity to organize activities to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025) and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025), welcoming the success of the 1st Congress of the Ben Tre Ward Party Committee, term 2025 - 2030.
