What's interesting about winter in Da Nang?

“Discovering Da Nang in winter, I thought I wouldn’t like it but I actually liked it.” On her personal page, the post by Ms. Thu Trang, a tourist from Hanoi, received a lot of attention and interactions from her friends who love to travel.

Popular winter destinations

Winter in Da Nang is only slightly chilly and there's relatively little rain. Therefore, according to Ms. Trang, exploring the city during these days is just right and pleasant. The streets, shops, and tourist attractions aren't too crowded, and it's easy to find hotels with beautiful views at more affordable prices compared to the peak season.

"Attractions like Hai Van Pass or Son Tra Peninsula are also very poetic and serene during this season, with open spaces allowing you to fully appreciate the beautiful scenery," Trang shared about her experience in Da Nang.

Sharing the same sentiment, Quang Trieu, a tour guide from Dong Nai, commented: "Visitors to Da Nang in winter will experience the most authentic feeling about Vietnam's most livable city."

Immerse yourself in the peaceful atmosphere and daily life of the locals, stroll along the breezy riverbank, or simply visit a museum, find a quiet spot under the warm yellow lights, and listen to history being recounted... Each person will have their own unique corner to deeply experience the distinctive culture of this central Vietnamese city.

The world's leading travel magazine, Time Out, has also just ranked Vietnam among the 20 best destinations for winter travel, where there is warm sunshine from October to February of the following year. Hoi An (Da Nang) topped the list of the best long-distance winter destinations thanks to its combination of affordability, ideal weather, and diverse experiences.

The sea calls on a rainy day.

The beach is often the main reason tourists choose Da Nang as their destination, but many worry that the cold and rainy winter weather will hinder their recreational activities. In reality, Da Nang's beaches always have their own unique charm, regardless of the season.

Mr. Eoin Kinsella, manager of Outdoor Adventures Co., Ltd. in Da Nang, said: “My Khe Beach always attracts foreign tourists to surf every winter thanks to favorable weather and wave conditions, with the sea water temperature consistently above 20°C. Even on many winter days, there is warm sunshine and a mild climate, creating ideal conditions for visitors to experience and enjoy themselves at the beach.”

These days, at Simple Beach Tien Sa, a bar nestled on Tien Sa beach at the foot of Son Tra mountain, transparent tarpaulins are erected like glass cages, sheltering visitors from the light rain. Inside, the atmosphere remains warm and lively, with people gathering around cocktails, music, and conversation.

Simple Beach Tien Sa is also a destination for those who love water sports. A new activity being tested here is the Flyboard show – an extreme sport that uses water jets to fly and perform acrobatic maneuvers in the air. The show is meticulously planned and is expected to create a new attraction for the city's tourism in the near future.

The allure of food

Da Nang's cuisine is a highlight every winter. Here, visitors can enjoy grilled seafood, hot pot, fish cake noodle soup, shrimp pancakes, and more – dishes that are available year-round but taste even better in the cool weather.

In particular, local restaurants and eateries attract customers by telling the story of seasonal cuisine, focusing on local ingredients, offering freshness, distinctive flavors, and authentic experiences.

Hot pot dishes, soups, and porridges, prepared with the abundant seafood of Da Nang's sea and seasoned with ginger, lemongrass, and bitter herbs, not only warm the hearts of diners but also vividly portray the culinary culture of Central Vietnam.

Ms. Yuki Tanaka from Japan recently had a very interesting experience at a wood-fired Quang noodle restaurant (on Ho Nghinh Street, Da Nang): “The restaurant's atmosphere gave me a warm and cozy feeling, with the light smoke mingling with the scent of charcoal on a rainy day. The bowl of Quang noodles had a broth infused with spices, and the fresh vegetables were delicious. It turns out that Quang noodles – a culinary specialty of Da Nang – are so appealing when eaten in winter.”

Da Nang in winter presents a picture that is both poetic and vibrant, making it a place everyone wants to experience at least once.
