
Facing young Malaysian player Oo Shan Zi – the second seed of the tournament, Vu Thi Trang started impressively with a quick 15-7 win in the first set. However, the 18-year-old opponent suddenly rose up in the second set, making good use of her long-lasting shots to level the score at 1-1 with a 15-12 win.
Entering the deciding set, the home player showed the mettle of a former No. 1 by always maintaining the lead. Despite being tied 9-9 and then 15-15 by Oo Shan Zi, Vu Thi Trang still maintained her concentration, taking advantage of her opponent's mistakes to win 17-15, thereby claiming the worthy championship.
Previously in the semi-finals, she defeated Eng Ler Qi – the third seed from Malaysia with a score of 2-0. On the journey to the final, Vu Thi Trang also defeated players from Malaysia, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and Thailand without losing a set.
In the men's doubles, the pair Nguyen Dinh Hoang - Tran Dinh Manh participated in the final match against the pair Weeraphat Phakjarung - Tanupat Viriyangkura (Thailand), taking place on the same day.
