With the strengthening cold front, temperatures in Northern Vietnam, Thanh Hoa, and Nghe An may drop below 17 degrees Celsius in some areas.

According to the National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting, due to the influence of a verstärkt cold front, the northern region, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces will continue to experience cold weather at night and in the morning, with mountainous areas experiencing freezing temperatures, and some places below 17 degrees Celsius.

The intensifying cold air mass is affecting weather conditions on land and at sea.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the cold air mass is continuing to move southward. Over the next 24 to 48 hours (around early morning on October 26th), this cold air mass will affect the northeastern region of Vietnam, then the North Central region and some areas in the Northwest and Central Central regions. Northeast winds will be strong, level 2-3 inland and level 3-4 in coastal areas.

Due to the influence of the cold air mass, the lowest temperatures during this cold spell in the Northern region, Thanh Hoa, and Nghe An provinces are generally between 19-22 degrees Celsius.

In the Hanoi area, the nights and mornings will be cold, with the lowest temperatures during this cold spell generally ranging from 19-21 degrees Celsius. At sea, from early morning on October 26th, the Gulf of Tonkin will experience increasingly strong northeasterly winds, reaching level 6, gusting to levels 7-8, with rough seas and waves 1.5-3 meters high; the northern part of the North East Sea will have strong northeasterly winds of level 6, sometimes level 7, gusting to levels 8-9, with very rough seas and waves 3-5 meters high; the sea area from southern Quang Tri to Da Nang city will have northeasterly winds of level 5, sometimes level 6, gusting to levels 7-8, with rough seas and waves 2-4 meters high.

Due to the influence of a strengthening cold front combined with disturbances in the upper easterly wind zone, the area from southern Quang Tri to Da Nang and the eastern parts of the provinces from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak will experience moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms, with very heavy rain in some localized areas.

Thunderstorms accompanied by tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong winds can affect agricultural production, cause trees to fall, and damage houses, transportation infrastructure, and other facilities.

Strong winds and gusts, along with large waves at sea, can affect the operation of ships and other activities. Cold weather at night and in the morning may impact health.

Heavy rain in many areas.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from the evening of October 25th to October 27th, heavy to very heavy rain is expected in Hue City, Da Nang City, and the eastern parts of Quang Ngai and Gia Lai provinces, with rainfall amounts generally ranging from 100-300 mm, and in some localized areas exceeding 450 mm.

The southern Quang Tri area and eastern Dak Lak will experience moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms with rainfall amounts generally ranging from 60-120 mm, and locally exceeding 200 mm. There is a warning of the risk of heavy rainfall exceeding 150 mm/3h.

In addition, in the evening and night of October 25, the western region from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak, Khanh Hoa, Lam Dong provinces and the Southern region will have rain, moderate rain and thunderstorms with rainfall of 20-40 mm, locally heavy to very heavy rain over 100 mm.

During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind. A warning is issued for heavy rainfall exceeding 80 mm/3h.

On the night of October 27th and throughout October 28th, moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected in the area from Quang Tri to Quang Ngai, with rainfall generally ranging from 50-150 mm, and locally exceeding 300 mm. Heavy rain in this area is likely to continue until the end of October 2025. The risk level for natural disasters due to heavy rain, tornadoes, lightning, and hail is level 1.

Heavy rains are likely to cause flooding in low-lying areas, urban and industrial areas; flash floods on small rivers and streams, landslides on steep slopes (real-time warning information on areas at risk of flash floods and landslides is provided online on the website of the Department of Hydrometeorology at: https://luquetsatlo.nchmf.gov.vn and in separate bulletins warning of flash floods and landslides).

"Areas requiring precautions during thunderstorms may experience tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind," Deputy Head of the Weather Forecasting Department Nguyen Huu Thanh noted.

Flood warning issued for rivers from Quang Tri to Khanh Hoa.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that from October 25 to October 28, a flood will occur on rivers from Quang Tri to Quang Ngai and along the coast of provinces from Gia Lai to Khanh Hoa. The peak flood level on Kien Giang River, Thach Han River (Quang Tri), Bo River, Huong River (Hue City), Tra Khuc River, Ve River (Quang Ngai) will rise to alert level 1-alarm 2, some places above alert 2; Vu Gia-Thu Bon River (Da Nang City), Kon River (Gia Lai), Ba River (Dak Lak) will rise to alert level 1; Ky Lo River (Dak Lak), Dinh Ninh Hoa River (Khanh Hoa) may rise to alert level 2-alarm 3.

There is a high risk of flooding in the provinces from Quang Tri to Khanh Hoa, and a high risk of flash floods on rivers and streams, and landslides on slopes in the provinces from Quang Tri to Khanh Hoa (real-time warning information on flash flood and landslide risk areas is provided online on the website of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology at: https://luquetsatlo.nchmf.gov.vn and in separate flash flood and landslide warning bulletins).

Flood risk level 1-2. Floods on rivers and streams may cause inundation in low-lying areas along the riverbanks, affecting activities such as waterway transportation, aquaculture, agricultural production, people's lives, and socio-economic activities.

Currently, water levels on rivers from Quang Tri to Khanh Hoa are fluctuating. At 1 PM on October 25th, the water level on the Kien Giang River (Quang Tri) at the Le Thuy station was 1.73 m, 0.47 m below alarm level 2; on the Bo River (Hue City) at the Phu Oc station was 2.74 m, 0.26 m below alarm level 2; and on the Huong River (Hue City) at the Kim Long station was 1.37 m, 0.37 m above alarm level 1.

Risk of flooding in low-lying coastal areas of Southeast Vietnam.

According to the 3:30 PM bulletin from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the highest water level at the Vung Tau station is predicted to reach 4-4.1 meters in the next 24 hours.

Over the next 24-72 hours, water levels along the eastern coast of Southern Vietnam will continue to change slowly. The highest water level at the Vung Tau station is likely to reach 3.95-4.05 meters. Forecasts indicate that, due to the influence of high tides, the eastern coastal areas of Southern Vietnam need to be aware of the high risk of flooding and dike breaches in low-lying coastal and riverside areas, as well as areas outside dikes. This could affect transportation, agricultural production, aquaculture, water pollution, and the daily lives of people in the eastern coastal region of Southern Vietnam.

Many sea areas have strong winds and high waves.

At sea, during the night of October 25th and throughout October 26th, in the sea areas from Quang Tri to Ca Mau, Ca Mau to An Giang, the Gulf of Thailand, the southern part of the North East Sea (including the Hoang Sa Special Economic Zone), the central East Sea, and the South East Sea (including the Truong Sa Special Economic Zone), there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, strong gusts of wind (level 6-7), and waves exceeding 2 meters.

All vessels operating in the above areas are at high risk of being affected by strong winds and large waves.
