What would it be like if patients, suffering and hoping for healing, encountered heartless individuals disguised as doctors? Losing money is bad enough, but the most worrying thing is the loss of faith in social order. This extremely serious incident recently occurred in Da Nang , a city often called the "most livable" in the country.
Information from the City Police Investigation Agency indicates that they have just initiated a criminal case and indicted seven individuals, including human resources managers and staff at the Da Nang International Multi-Specialty Clinic located at 180 Tran Phu Street, for the crime of "Deceiving Customers." The suspects' modus operandi involved establishing the Da Nang International Multi-Specialty Clinic under the legal entity of Da Nang International Multi-Specialty Hospital Joint Stock Company, then recruiting a group of fake "doctors" to perform medical procedures related to male and female reproductive health issues. The clinic instructed staff to provide false information about each procedure to inflate the prices of service packages significantly beyond their actual cost. During the procedures, staff often tried to inflict pain or create confusion to entice customers to switch to the most expensive service package, sometimes costing up to 30 million VND. Initially, the investigation determined that the company illegally profited 376 million VND from 17 customers.
This incident brings to mind similar cases of forgery that occurred in Thanh Hoa province.
Five months ago, the Provincial Police, in coordination with the Department of Health, uncovered numerous fraudulent schemes targeting patients at several disguised medical facilities. Among them, Incheon Healthcare, located at 15 Nguyen Can Street, Dien Bien Ward, former Thanh Hoa City, despite not being licensed to operate in the medical field, was found to have five patients receiving treatment for musculoskeletal disorders and sinusitis. The facility was managed and operated by Nguyen Xuan Cuong, a high school graduate who falsely claimed to be a doctor working at a major hospital in Hanoi. Additionally, two other individuals, not doctors, falsely claimed to be masters and doctors working at major hospitals in Hanoi. Most of the six medical staff members providing treatment lacked medical expertise. Similarly, EMC Healthcare, located at 4 Bui Khac Nhat Street, former Dong Huong Ward, was also found to be operating medical services contrary to its business registration license. Here, three employees, each with only a high school diploma and a nursing degree, falsely claimed to be doctors working at a major hospital in Hanoi in order to attract customers.
The phenomenon of fake "doctors" is now widespread in provinces and cities across the country, prompting many hospitals to issue warnings urging people to be vigilant.
Following these consecutive incidents, it is imperative that medical and pharmaceutical regulatory agencies and local authorities take more decisive action, preventing patients from becoming easy targets for these inhumane individuals. As long as fake "doctors" exist, it will be very difficult for patients to escape the traps set by these perpetrators. Trust in regulatory agencies is also at risk of plummeting.
