Up to now, although the project has been completed and put into operation, localized flooding still occurs in many places in Tay Ninh city after each heavy rain.
The project was implemented to resolve serious flooding at several locations in the two urban areas. Specifically, it includes flooded areas from Huynh Cong Gian Street to Alley 25, Lo A Chanh Mon; from inside Alley 27, Lac Long Quan Street to Bau Ca Na Entertainment Center on Lac Long Quan Street and in front of Hiep Ninh Ward on Cach Mang Thang Tam Street; Ao Ho intersection (Lac Long Quan - Vo Thi Sau, corner of the old Hoa Thanh District People's Committee); behind Alley 75, 67, Cach Mang Thang Tam Street and Huynh Cong Gian - Nguyen Van Rop intersection.
The investor, the Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board, said that the project has been completed and handed over to the Tay Ninh City People's Committee for management and operation since February 2023 and is effectively draining water for the project's investment areas as mentioned above.
After each rain, although it decreases, August Revolution Street is still partially flooded.
However, in reality, some areas that are considered to have been effective are still severely flooded after each heavy rain. For example, the area from alley 27 Lac Long Quan street to Bau Ca Na entertainment center or the intersection of Huynh Cong Gian - Nguyen Van Rop.
Mr. Hoang Anh, a water seller at the intersection of Huynh Cong Gian and Nguyen Van Rop, said that every time it rains heavily, this intersection (especially along Nguyen Van Rop) is deeply flooded, causing many motorbikes to stall, partly because the water collection mouths are silted up.
On Lac Long Quan Street (section of Bau Ca Na Entertainment Center), Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tuan, a resident of Quarter 2, Ward IV, said that localized flooding here has significantly decreased, unlike previous years. After each heavy rain, the road is flooded but the water recedes after only about 15 minutes.
It is known that to overcome the local flooding at some points on Cach Mang Thang Tam Street, we may have to wait until the project to renovate this road is implemented with a new drainage system design. Similarly, the flooding on Nguyen Van Rop Street will only be resolved when the road upgrading and expansion project is completed.
Currently, Tay Ninh city is building a wastewater collection and treatment system along a number of roads, along with focusing on investing in upgrading traffic infrastructure. The province is also about to invest in new roads such as the extended Truong Chinh. The roads that are being invested in and are preparing to be invested in the near future all have drainage systems to collect rainwater along the route.
The question is, how to connect the drainage systems of the roads in Tay Ninh city, ensure good drainage as well as effectively resolve newly emerging local flooding points such as the flooding point on 30.4 street (in front of the Provincial Tax Department)? If there is no close coordination between investors in connecting the drainage systems of the roads, local flooding may continue to occur. This is an issue that the People's Committee of Tay Ninh city needs to have practical solutions, in coordination with related sectors to resolve in the coming time.
