On November 30th, the 2024 Can Tho City Expanded Composite Boat Race took place with great excitement and intensity on the Khai Luong canal, near the Ninh Kieu pedestrian bridge (Cai Khe Ward, Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City).
The 2024 Can Tho City Expanded Composite Boat Race will be held at a location with one of the most beautiful views in the Western region of Vietnam.
The two events in the competition were the Genesis GS210 gasoline engine, 7HP, 5.9m long composite hull, stainless steel AB propeller and the Genesis GS420 gasoline engine, 15HP, 5.9m long composite hull, stainless steel AB propeller.
Hosts Can Tho and Ca Mau demonstrated their superiority by easily overcoming their competitors from the other four provinces of Hau Giang, Kien Giang, Ho Chi Minh City , and Long An.
Accordingly, in the 7HP gasoline engine category, Ca Mau swept all the prizes, with first place going to Nguyen Tri Dien (Dam Doi District), second place to Le Van Phuoc (Dam Doi District), third place to Nguyen Ngoc Duong (Ngoc Hien District), and fourth place to Nguyen Chi Linh (Ngoc Hien District). They received prize money of 40 million VND, 20 million VND, 10 million VND, and 5 million VND respectively for first, second, third, and fourth place.
Mr. Truong Cong Quoc Viet, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City, presented the awards for the 7HP gasoline engine category to 4 athletes, all from Ca Mau.
Meanwhile, on home ground, Can Tho athletes performed excellently and won 3 awards in the 15HP gasoline engine category, including: First place (Phan Duy Linh, Phong Dien District), third place (Le Van Hau, Binh Thuy District) and fourth place (Le Thanh Nam, Binh Thuy District). Second place in this category went to Tran Van Ngoan from Kien Giang.
In this category, the prize structure is 20 million VND, 10 million VND, 5 million VND, and 3 million VND for first, second, third, and fourth place, respectively.
Besides the second place, the remaining three positions in the 15HP gasoline engine category all went to Can Tho.
Mr. Truong Cong Quoc Viet, Deputy Director of the Can Tho Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said that the Can Tho City Composite Boat Championship is a grassroots competition, held annually since 2015. Although it has not yet been elevated to a professional tournament, it attracts a lot of attention from the public because it showcases the unique characteristics of the waterways of the Mekong Delta. "The Department is aiming to elevate the composite boat racing competition to a professional level to make the competitions more attractive," Mr. Viet said.
