Can Tho informs about more than 1 point per subject to pass 10th grade public school entrance exam

(NLDO) - An official from the Department of Education and Training of Can Tho City said that the learning conditions of children in remote areas are more difficult than other places, so the benchmark scores are low so that children can go to school.

In the 2021 10th grade entrance exam in Can Tho City, candidates will take 3 subjects: Math, Literature, Foreign Language. Of which, 2 subjects have a coefficient of 2: Math and Literature. The exam score is the total score of the 3 subjects multiplied by the coefficient.

Recently, the Department of Education and Training of Can Tho City announced the admission scores for grade 10. Some schools with high admission scores are Chau Van Liem High School (34), Pedagogical Practice High School (33.65), Nguyen Viet Hong High School (26.95)... These schools are all located in Ninh Kieu district.

Meanwhile, some other schools in the city have a low admission score below 10. For example, Thoi Long High School (O Mon district) has a admission score of 9.90, equivalent to 1.98 points per subject to be admitted.

Some other schools such as Tran Ngoc Hoang Secondary and High School (Co Do district), Truong Xuan Secondary and High School (Thoi Lai district) have standard scores of 9.5 and 9.1 respectively.

Thanh An High School and Vinh Thanh High School (Vinh Thanh District) both have a standard score of 7. Candidates only need to score 1.4 points per subject to pass. Thanh Thang Middle School and High School (Vinh Thanh District) also have a standard score of 7.2.

In particular, candidates applying to Giai Xuan High School (Phong Dien District) only need to score 6 points to be admitted. Thus, the average score for each subject that candidates need to achieve is 1.2.

On June 30, speaking to a reporter from the Lao Dong Newspaper, an official from the Department of Education and Training of Can Tho City said that the exam for the 10th grade entrance exam is a common exam, and students from different regions have different preferences. Schools in Vinh Thanh, Thoi Lai, Co Do districts... have more difficult learning conditions for students than other places, so the benchmark scores are low so that students can go to school.

According to this official, every year, the department develops an enrollment plan to submit to the City People's Committee for approval. This plan is based on the actual situation of each area in the city. In educational institutions with good teachers and good facilities, if they do not enroll students, it will be a waste of resources. At the same time, the number of candidates who want to study but are not admitted will also face difficulties.

"Don't look at low scores to say good or bad. When organizing exams, high schools will know where their students' entrance level is, from there they will have appropriate educational programs" - this officer said.
