On December 20, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced 12 changes in the cabinet, including 8 new ministers and the transfer of 4 old ministers.

The major change is seen as one of Canada's biggest cabinet reshuffles since Mr Trudeau took power nine years ago.
According to Canadian media, Mr. Trudeau had long considered this change, but the sudden resignation of Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland forced him to make the decision.
The post of minister in charge of Canada-US relations, which was once considered for Ms. Freeland and led to her resignation, is no longer seen on the list of new cabinet appointments.
The cabinet reshuffle comes days after major upheaval for the Liberal Party and is seen as an attempt to bring stability to Canada, despite strong pressure within the party for Mr. Trudeau to resign.
In 2024 alone, nine cabinet ministers resigned or announced they would not run for re-election or were fired.
CBC News quoted a Canadian government source as saying that the timing and scope of the reshuffle should not be seen as a signal that the Prime Minister has decided on his future, adding that Mr. Trudeau is still considering his stance.
However, questions about Trudeau's future are emerging as his popularity has fallen in recent polls and calls for his resignation have grown from within his own Liberal Party and the opposition.
