Nevertheless, analytics firm TrendForce predicts a significant improvement in the SSD supply-demand balance in the second half of 2025. According to TrendForce, several key factors will contribute to this recovery, including reduced NAND chip production, decreased smartphone inventory, and increasing demand driven by the development of artificial intelligence (AI).
NAND chip manufacturers are planning to cut production.
TrendForce reports that over the past two years, flash memory manufacturers have become acutely aware of the serious impact of oversupply, particularly as the annual growth rate of flash memory demand has slowed from 30% to 10-15%. This has forced them to adjust their production strategies to cope with the prolonged price decline.
The supply-demand balance for SSDs is gradually shifting.
Around 2025, NAND memory chip manufacturers are expected to drastically cut production to quickly address market imbalances and lay the groundwork for price recovery. Interestingly, China's current smartphone replacement subsidy policy is underway, promising to stimulate phone sales and boost NAND memory consumption.
Nvidia plans to increase shipments of its Blackwell series products in the second half of the year, significantly boosting demand for enterprise SSDs. Furthermore, DeepSeek's advancements in reducing AI server deployment costs will encourage small and medium-sized enterprises to be more proactive in integrating AI, thereby enhancing their competitiveness.
SSDs with capacities exceeding 30 TB are predicted to become the preferred storage solution due to their high performance and low total cost of ownership. The emergence of AI-powered computers and workstations will also facilitate the integration of AI into everyday applications, potentially leading to long-term growth in SSD capacity in the consumer segment. Finally, the decreasing computing power requirements could fuel the penetration of affordable AI-powered smartphones into the market, thereby increasing demand for flash memory.
