Warning about new form of fraud using AI to steal gmail user information

VNCERT/CC Center, Department of Information Security ( Ministry of Information and Communications ) has just warned about the appearance in the world of a new form of fraud, taking advantage of AI and impersonation technology to steal users' gmail login information.

Vietnam Cyber ​​Emergency Response Center - VNCERT/CC, Department of Information Security, Ministry of Information and Communications said that a sophisticated fraud campaign, taking advantage of AI and impersonation technology to steal users' gmail login information, is taking place in the world .

The new scam includes spoofing Google emails and phone numbers, using artificial intelligence - AI technology to create realistic messages and calls to trick users into providing sensitive information.

Specifically, the scammer sends a fake email from Google, asking users to perform the account recovery process. The email contains a link to a fake website with an interface similar to the Gmail login page, designed to steal login information.

About 40 minutes after receiving the fake email, the user continued to receive a fake call claiming to be from Google support staff and notifying them of unusual activity in the victim's gmail account.

Scammers also use AI voices and phone number spoofing software to increase persuasiveness.

Identifying a new form of fraud that puts global Gmail users at risk of having their account login information and personal data stolen, experts from the VNCERT/CC Center recommend that users and administrators be wary of calls from phone numbers that appear to be from Google; always carefully check the sender's email address. In case of doubt, users should not provide sensitive information via phone or email.
