The Vietnam Cyber Emergency Response Center (VNCERT/CC), under the Information Security Department of the Ministry of Information and Communications, reports that a sophisticated phishing campaign, exploiting AI and impersonation technology to steal Gmail login information from users, is currently underway worldwide .

This new form of fraud includes impersonating Google emails and phone numbers, using artificial intelligence (AI) technology to create realistic messages and calls to trick users into providing sensitive information.

Specifically, the scammers send fake emails impersonating Google, requesting users to perform an account recovery process. The email contains a link to a fake website with an interface similar to the Gmail login page, designed to steal login information.

Approximately 40 minutes after receiving the phishing email, the user then received a fake phone call from someone claiming to be a Google support representative, informing them of unusual activity in their Gmail account.

Scammers also use AI voices and software to spoof phone numbers to increase their credibility.

Recognizing that a new scam is putting Gmail users worldwide at risk of having their login credentials and personal data stolen, experts at the VNCERT/CC Center recommend that users and administrators be wary of calls from phone numbers that appear to belong to Google; always carefully check the sender's email address. In case of suspicion, users should not provide sensitive information over the phone or email.
