Warning from Cuu Long University

Accordingly, through monitoring the situation among students of the school in Vinh Long province and from the Cyber Security Department of the Vinh Long Provincial Police, the school discovered many cases where students were scammed by individuals impersonating police, prosecutors, and courts via telephone, resulting in the loss of hundreds of millions of VND.

The methods these individuals employ are highly sophisticated, using many convincing scenarios to build trust and exploit the fears of young students.

First, the perpetrators inform students about overseas study programs by cutting and pasting the principal's signature and the school's seal to build trust with the students.

Subsequently, the perpetrators employ tactics such as making phone calls claiming to have received online orders as an initial contact. If the students refuse to cooperate, they introduce themselves as representatives of law enforcement agencies and inform them that the students are involved in illegal activities (personal information being used for illegal purposes, creating bank accounts, engaging in predatory lending, money laundering, etc.); they also exchange some verification information such as student ID numbers and majors to create the illusion of being from law enforcement.

After the students agree to cooperate, the perpetrators will introduce them to video chat groups (Zalo, Telegram, Zoom, etc.) to show them the uniforms, workplaces, and official documents of the authorities to further increase their trust.

The perpetrators will ask students to provide proof of financial means for investigation purposes or to prove their non-involvement by transferring money as requested, thereby misappropriating their assets (in some cases, they even instruct students to borrow money through Momo e-wallet or from relatives to transfer to the perpetrators).

Based on the above cases, the school is notifying all staff, faculty, and students to be vigilant against suspicious calls and to refrain from transferring money to individuals impersonating police, prosecutors, or court officials in order to avoid financial losses.

Upon receiving suspicious calls like the one described above, students are instructed to inform their families, academic advisors, and the Student Affairs Department for assistance. The university requests that heads of departments disseminate this information to all staff, faculty , and students.

In addition to the aforementioned warning, Cuu Long University has also reported to the Vinh Long Provincial Police about the forgery of the university's announcements.

All expenses for the 3-month program in Japan, including travel and accommodation, will be covered by the Japanese side. To participate, students must submit an application to the university along with an electronic bank statement showing a minimum balance of 250 million VND.
