Beware of scams involving integrating land ownership certificates into VNeID.

VTV.vn - Recently, sophisticated fraud activities involving land-related scams have appeared on the internet.

These individuals exploit the high value of real estate and the lack of verification among the public to impersonate officials from relevant agencies, requesting the integration of land ownership certificates ("red books") and the fraudulent VneID application in order to seize assets.

According to observations from crime prevention and control efforts, the Economic Security Department of the Provincial Police warns of the common modus operandi of fraudsters, specifically as follows:

+ Impersonating government officials: These individuals proactively make phone calls, claiming to be officials from the Land Registration Office, administrative agencies, or local police officers.

+ Creating a sense of urgency: They announce that citizens' land use right certificates ("Red Book") contain data errors, incorrect locations, or need to be urgently integrated into the VNeID electronic identification application according to a "new policy".

+ Remote malware installation: Instead of directing citizens to the relevant authorities, the perpetrators send access links (via Zalo, Facebook, SMS) that resemble public service portals or files with the .apk extension. When citizens download and install these, malware is actually installed on their personal phones, and their devices are then compromised.

+ Gaining control and withdrawing money: This malware allows attackers to monitor and steal bank account login information, OTP codes, and remotely take control of the device, thereby silently transferring money from the victim's account and stealing it without the victim's knowledge.

To proactively protect accounts and personal information and completely prevent this type of scam, the Economic Security Department advises citizens and organizations to adhere to the following principles:

The "Three No's" principle in cyberspace:

Do not deal with individuals claiming to be government officials over the phone or on social media. All administrative procedures related to land and electronic identification are handled directly at the headquarters of the relevant authorities or through the official National Public Service Portal.

Do not click on any suspicious links, and do not download or install applications from stores other than the official app store (Google Play for Android and App Store for iOS).

Do not provide your OTP code, bank account information, password, or accessibility permissions to anyone.

Identifying the authentic VneID application

The VneID application from the Ministry of Public Security has only one official version on the two major app stores. The police never send application installation links via Zalo messages or personal SMS.

Currently, the integration of personal documents is being carried out according to a strict security plan, and citizens should follow information from official provincial news channels.

Prompt notification and handling

When receiving calls that appear to be fraudulent, people should immediately end the call and report it to the nearest police station for advice and assistance.

In cases where malware infection is suspected (unusual overheating, rapid battery drain, automatic installation of strange applications, etc.), people should immediately disconnect from the internet, restore the device to factory settings, and notify the bank immediately to temporarily freeze the account in an emergency.
