The Command of Coast Guard Region 3 recently held a briefing and assigned tasks to forces and vehicles to intensify patrols, inspections, and controls during the peak period of combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing in Phuoc Thang ward, Ho Chi Minh City.
According to the plan, Squadron 2 consists of 3 vessels, including 2 from the Command of Coast Guard Region 3 and 1 from the 18th Naval Squadron (Border Guard). The Squadron, led by the Command of Coast Guard Region 3, will directly command and coordinate patrols, inspections, and controls in its assigned sea areas; simultaneously deploy observation and reconnaissance measures to ensure no targets are missed, especially fishing vessels that have lost connection with their vessel monitoring systems (VMS). The forces will inspect and control 100% of fishing vessels showing suspicious signs, operating outside their designated routes, losing VMS connection, or violating the "three no's" (no illegal activities, no monitoring, no safety ...

Furthermore, the units strictly implemented the information and reporting procedures, ensuring timely and accurate reporting; resolutely declaring war on all IUU fishing activities, contributing to the complete cessation of violations before the European Commission (EC) inspection team's fifth visit to Vietnam. This is a concrete action demonstrating the high determination of the Coast Guard and the entire political system in the effort to remove the IUU "yellow card" in 2025.
During the course of their duties, the forces also combined propaganda and guidance for fishermen to comply with legal regulations, and to驱赶 foreign fishing vessels encroaching on Vietnam's waters; at the same time, they were always ready to carry out search and rescue missions and other unexpected tasks when ordered.

According to Colonel Nguyen Minh Khanh, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of Coast Guard Region 3, agencies, units, and forces need to uphold a high sense of responsibility and proactively complete preparations in terms of personnel, vehicles, and equipment; organize patrols, inspections, and controls according to plan and legal regulations, ensuring absolute safety throughout the entire mission. At the same time, units must regularly report daily on the situation and results so that leaders and commanders at all levels can promptly grasp and provide practical guidance; after the peak period, an objective and transparent evaluation of the results should be conducted, promptly commending and rewarding outstanding collectives and individuals, and strictly handling cases of errors or overlooked violations.
This intensified campaign against IUU fishing is a practical step, concretizing the directives of the Prime Minister and the orders of the Ministry of National Defense , demonstrating the high determination of the Coast Guard in protecting maritime sovereignty and maintaining security and order in the seas, for a peaceful, cooperative, developed and sustainable Vietnamese sea.
