A 45-day crackdown, implemented by the Ho Chi Minh City Police in coordination with the 138 Steering Committee of various localities from May 2nd to June 14th, focused on removing and handling illegal advertisements throughout the city. In many streets and residential areas, advertisements offering financial loans, septic tank cleaning, document trading, and job recruitment services of unknown origin were rampant, detracting from urban aesthetics and posing potential risks related to "loan sharking," fraud, and security and order issues.
Therefore, the campaign received positive support and participation from the people. Ms. Nguyen Kim Dieu, a resident of An Hoi Tay ward, shared: “Previously, many walls, utility poles, electrical boxes, and bridge supports were covered with advertisements, looking very unsightly. Now that the authorities have removed them, the streets are cleaner and more beautiful, and we residents are very pleased and supportive.”

In An Hoi Tay ward, the ward police, in coordination with the local political system, simultaneously launched a cleanup campaign along Pham Van Chieu, Phan Huy Ich, Street No. 59, and many alleys. As a result, areas previously covered with illegal advertisements have gradually restored their appearance, becoming more open, clean, and beautiful. Along with removing illegal advertisements, the authorities also encouraged households to sign commitments not to post illegal advertisements in front of their houses; and simultaneously promoted the installation and use of the "SOS Security and Order" application to raise awareness of self-prevention, self-management, and proactively protect the safety of themselves, their families, and the community.
Comrade Nguyen Thi Xuan Huong, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of An Hoi Tay Ward and Secretary of the Ward Youth Union, said: “In the coming time, we will continue to incorporate this activity into summer volunteer campaigns along with many other programs and movements; contributing to raising people's awareness in maintaining urban aesthetics, building a civilized, clean and beautiful living environment, and spreading the spirit of responsibility for the community in the area.”
Alongside the removal of illegal advertisements, local police are also reviewing and collecting phone numbers printed on these advertisements to verify and track down the individuals involved. Some violators have been fined 1-2 million VND according to Government Decree No. 38/2021/ND-CP on administrative penalties in the fields of culture and advertising; they have also been forced to remove and delete the illegal advertisements and restore the original state of the site.
Ho Chi Minh City's decisive action against "dirty advertising" not only contributes to building a green, clean, and beautiful urban landscape but also demonstrates the determination of all levels and sectors in preserving a civilized and safe living environment and raising people's awareness of law compliance in the city.
