Just a few hours after receiving the all-around gold medal in gymnastics at the SEA Games, the name of the best gymnast in the Philippines appeared on the homepage of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in the article "Carlos Yulo wins all-around gold medal and Vietnam defends team championship at the 32nd SEA Games".
Southeast Asian sports talents on IOC magazine
The article mentioned the 23-year-old Manila boy, only 1.5m tall, who was a six-time world champion in gymnastics, successfully defended his No. 1 position in the all-around event at the 32nd SEA Games. Two Vietnamese athletes, Le Thanh Tung and Dinh Phuong Thanh, ranked second and third respectively after Carlos Yulo, which was also the ranking of this trio at the 31st SEA Games held in Hanoi last summer.

This is the third consecutive SEA Games, the all-around gold medal belongs to Carlos Yulo, one of the few world-class sports stars competing in the Southeast Asian Games which does not gather many top names, not just gymnastics. Few people know that just a week before the 32nd SEA Games, Carlos Yulo had to withdraw from the FIG World Cup Series tournament held in Egypt due to an ankle injury.

However, Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP) President Cynthia still affirmed that Carlos Yulo can still compete in the 32nd SEA Games and can even win many gold medals. This confidence is completely justified because before the injury, Carlos Yulo's performance was stable at a very high level. Since the beginning of 2023, he has won 3 gold medals, 1 silver medal and 2 bronze medals at World Cup Series tournaments.
Carlos Yulo (middle) is the smallest of the athletes participating in the tournament.
Expected to participate in 4 team and individual events at the 32nd SEA Games, on the first day of competition, Carlos Yulo immediately won the individual all-around gold medal with a very high individual score, specifically the parallel bars event won 14,950 points and the vault event was an absolute score of 15,000! Unfortunately, the "lone bird" Carlos Yulo was not enough to shake up the whole team and the Philippine team could only win the silver medal in the men's team.
...but his position in the all-around event is the envy of everyone.
This achievement once again confirms that Carlos Yulo is the "nemesis" of Le Thanh Tung, Dinh Phuong Thanh or Nguyen Van Khanh Phong of Vietnamese gymnastics in the upcoming singles competitions.
