Deploying the first construction phase of the Cho Moi - Bac Kan expressway at Km28+100. |
Construction started in March 2025, the Cho Moi - Bac Kan expressway is 28.8km long, with a total investment of over 5,750 billion VND from the state budget. The starting point connects with the Thai Nguyen - Cho Moi route, the end point connects with the Bac Kan - Cao Bang route.
The project is designed according to expressway standards with a speed of 80km/h, including 4 lanes; there are 18 bridges on the route, along with 4 strategic intersections. By early July 2025, the project's site clearance work had achieved many important results. More than 147/261.8 hectares of land to be recovered had been handed over; more than 1,620 households were affected, of which 1,359 households received compensation with a total payment of over 344 billion VND.
Immediately after the site was handed over in parts, contractors quickly started construction with a total of 15 points, including road and bridge construction points. On the sections from Km2+00 to Km28+829, land clearing, organic excavation, construction of service roads, bored pile drilling, etc. took place simultaneously. In addition, technical infrastructure works such as 0.4kV, 35kV, 110kV power systems and telecommunications networks are also being relocated as planned.
Mr. Le Van Phuc, a resident of Bac Kan ward, could not hide his joy: This expressway will shorten the travel time from the northern localities of Thai Nguyen province to Hanoi and neighboring provinces. Traveling is faster, safer and more convenient, especially helping to reduce the worry about accidents on old national highways.
The Cho Moi - Bac Kan expressway project is expected to be larger than a normal traffic project, because for the northern localities of the province, this is the beginning of a new development. In terms of economy, the expressway will help significantly reduce the time of transporting goods, reduce logistics costs, and expand the market space for local agricultural and forestry products.
Industrial and high-tech products from Hanoi and the southern provinces will also be easily accessible to the locality, creating a "boost" for the development of industrial clusters, trade and services in the area. In addition, it will help shorten the distance, creating favorable conditions for people to access medical services, education, vocational training and cultural exchange.
The expressway will help elevate destinations, especially Ba Be Lake - one of the special national landscapes, by shortening travel time, enhancing amenities and visitor experiences. "We believe that the new expressway will open up great opportunities to attract tourists, develop services and consume agricultural and forestry products," said Dong Van Hoan, owner of a homestay in the Ba Be Lake area.
According to the plan, the project is expected to be put into operation in 2026 as committed to the Government. The Cho Moi - Bac Kan Expressway is a strategic step, but above all, it is a symbol of a development approach that takes infrastructure as the foundation and people as the center.
When infrastructure is invested in the right places, the low-lying areas will be filled, opportunities will be spread out and development will not stop at big cities. That is also the way to realize fairness through action, not just policy.
