Nineteen-year-old striker Louey Ben Farhat has been dropped from Tunisia's squad for the 2026 World Cup following intervention from his own father.

According to coach Sabri Lamouchi, the Tunisian national team's strategist had planned to call up the young talent currently playing for Karlsruher for the tournament taking place in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. However, before the official squad announcement, Lamouchi unexpectedly received a call from Ben Farhat's father.

“Ben Farhat’s father called me and said his son was too young to participate in the World Cup. I was shocked. I tried to contact him but the phone kept going off. I had to remove his name from the list,” said coach Lamouchi.

Coach Lamouchi later stated that he had tried to contact Ben Farhat directly to clarify the situation, but the 19-year-old striker did not respond. Ultimately, the strategist decided to exclude the German-born player from the World Cup squad due to a lack of family consent.

Ben Farhat was sidelined for much of the early part of this season due to injury. However, he made a strong comeback in the second half of the Bundesliga 2 season and quickly impressed with his outstanding form for Karlsruher.

That performance earned Ben Farhat his first call-up to the Tunisian national team for friendly matches against Haiti and Canada last month. Furthermore, several Bundesliga clubs are closely monitoring the young striker's development.

At the 2026 World Cup, Tunisia is in Group F along with the Netherlands, Sweden, and Japan.
