Five days before the 80th Anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2 (mission A80), Major Tran Van Huy - Squadron Leader of Squadron 1 and Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Ngoc Hung - Flight Instructor of Squadron 1, Squadron 1, Regiment 910 (Air Force Officer School) woke up and urgently prepared the training flight team to form a formation and fly over the Ba Dinh Square grandstand area.
The direct training flights over Ba Dinh Square played an important role in helping the L-39NG squadron of the two teachers and students, as well as other air force units, successfully complete the demonstration flight mission on the National Day, September 2.

After the meteorological flight was completed, the flight command force, pilots and the mission-performing members of the flight team attended the pre-flight task assignment conference... After the conference, pilots Huy and Hung quickly maneuvered to the parking area, receiving the handover of the L-39NG aircraft with registration number 2307 from the technical force.
With the support of the staff, they quickly maneuvered into the cockpit, turned on the engine, and controlled the plane to move to the waiting line amid the roar of dozens of jet engines simultaneously resounding throughout the sky...

Receiving the command from the Flight Commander, the plane piloted by pilots Huy and Hung took off with the formation, soaring towards the sky of the Capital, where there is Ba Dinh Square - the sacred heart of the whole country, in the deep blue sky and the golden sunshine pouring like honey of the historic Autumn sky.
When the mission was completed and they returned safely, the two young pilots stepped down from the cockpit, their backs drenched in sweat, but their faces were radiant with joy and pride at having just completed their sacred mission.
Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Ngoc Hung shared: “This is my second flight to the Square, the moment of saluting with the squadron in the sky of Ba Dinh is still as emotional as the first time. Before, I never dared to think that I would have this precious opportunity… The flights carrying out the A-80 mission became even more special when I was able to fly alongside my close comrade and also my precious teacher. Therefore, the A80 mission is also a milestone, an extremely beautiful memory in the military life of the two teachers and students”.
Looking at pilot number 2, who is responsible for using the navigation equipment to help him keep flight data, maintain status throughout each flight, help correct any errors that arise and in case of damage that needs to be handled, when flying in a large formation and who was also his student, with a look of trust and pride, Major Tran Van Huy said: Ever since Hung was a student, he was assigned the task of directly supervising and training. During the process of guiding and teaching, Huy realized that this young student had many qualities necessary and sufficient to become a military pilot and a flight instructor. Hung is agile, loves to fly, and loves to learn. He learned all the ground training, technical training and practical training on the L-39 aircraft very quickly."

Major Tran Van Huy added that normally a student who can grasp 4-5/10 of the knowledge taught by the teacher is considered successful. But Hung always achieved and developed well 7-8/10 of the knowledge taught by the teacher. With excellent academic performance and a strong mentality and character, Hung was the student who was trusted and chosen to be the first to apply in the entire course.
After graduating, Senior Lieutenant Hung was retained as a flight instructor at Regiment 910 in 2020. Here, he gradually asserted his abilities with impressive achievements: In just 2 years, from the position of teaching assistant, he participated in flight training, developed personal lesson plans, and successfully completed all tests of subjects and lectures.
The quality of the students taught by Hung all have very good academic, training and flying performance. In 2022, he was approved and became an official flight instructor. With excellent achievements in training and education on L-39 equipment, Hung continued to be trusted by the unit's officers and commanders to be assigned the task of training the new L-39NG aircraft.
As soon as he received the A80 mission, Hung was trusted by his superiors to fly in the official formation. This was a great honor but also put a lot of pressure on the young pilot without a rank. Because the pilots assigned to carry out this important mission were mostly experienced pilots with large accumulated flight hours (level 1 and level 2 pilots).
When moving to Kep airport to carry out training missions, Hung and his teammates also encountered many difficulties because the weather in the North at this time was not as favorable as in Tuy Hoa and he did not have much experience in flying large formations.

Determining the mission, throughout the training process, Hung always tried his best to review the theory, prepare for the flight meticulously, and coordinate closely between the two cabins of the aircraft and the numbers in the formation. He perfected each skill and movement, especially the method of observation, keeping distance, spacing, and altitude difference when flying in a large formation through each flight.
After each flight, Hung also took the opportunity to discuss with teachers and experienced pilots and overcome shortcomings so that the next flight would be better than the previous one.
In the coming days, Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Ngoc Hung and his teammates will continue to make every effort for the recent A80 mission. This is also the foundation and motivation for him to continue to strive, study and complete all assigned tasks, contributing more to the unit's training and education mission in particular and the cause of protecting the sacred sky of the Fatherland in general.
